2022 WFU bowl speculation thread

I have a good friend who is an ECU grad. He pulls for Wake since he lives in Winston. We have a friendly bet of O/U assuming we play one another. I have over 74, he has the under. Oh, and the only way I got over was I got to pick first on a coin toss!!! He claims their defense is even more putrid than ours but I think he's just trying to be nice.
Phil Steele ranks the 131 FBS teams on pass defense, factoring in quality of opponents faced and then all of the pass defense metrics.

WF is #130
ECU is #131

If Sam wants to, he could put the ACC career TD mark out of reach. FWIW, ECU's QB Holton Ahlers is also a 5th year senior stud. Scoring a TD on offense would be like holding serve in tennis.

Man what could’ve been

But also fuck the Rose Bowl for holding up shit with the CFP when the damn teams that play in it aren’t even wanting to be there.

I believe that will also shake up the ACC to a degree as it would then land Ohio State in the OB and open up a Reliaquest bid for the conference (thus taking away the Birmingham/Tampa options at the bottom?) Probably why they can't/won't release any "locks" for even early season bowl games that depend upon NY6 selection.

I’ll believe it when I see it. No real reason why Wake would be the beneficiary of an upgraded Florida bowl slot over other options like Louisville or Pitt is there?

They are interested more in TV draw than attendance. I saw on Reddit that we’ve been the 3rd-4th most watched ACC team when it comes to TV ratings over the past 2-3 years so it does make some sense. People like points. We score them. We allow other teams to score them.

Our shitty defense should get us into the CFP then.
The problem is that we can’t score on good defenses! We need another shitty defense to play against. I propose that Oklahoma/WFU is a CFP game.

We have a history of losing by 60 to a Venables defense though.

I'd be salivating to play Wake right now if I was a HC. If you have a team worth a shit it'll prob be an easy win. For one we suck right now, we'll have some opt outs. We are way down from where we wanted to be so motivation will be low. We'd be lucky to end up playing ECU or the like to give us a chance.

The prospect of losing to the Big 4 and then ECU in the same season - ouch!

This is unfortunately very true. I really wish I knew what happened to this team. Clawson saying he's tired after this season and that the season was stressful in a number of ways, tells me something is just not right. Hopefully, Les or Conor can find out more in the off-season. But, I'd love to know why this team went south so quickly.

I don't think it's that complicated, had a ton of defensive injuries and played about as tough an ACC schedule as we could have possibly played
