MBB Game 17: Florida State @ LJVM - Wednesday 9 pm - ACCN

There was a poster earlier this year who said Cam doesn’t belong in the ACC

At the game, students showed up. Gotta give major props for that. Rest of the place was relatively empty, as expected especially at 9 pm. Joel win streak is great, and place should be more full, get your ass there if you're close to winston.

Cam gets so much out of his ability, and tonight was a night it just went right for him. He is pretty athletic, they couldn't guard him. When he's off in the paint and taking those 8 foot turn around jumpers I hate it, but when he stays aggressive and finishes at the basket he's a problem. Also rebounds and defends at a great level. I was wrong about him at the beginning of the season and I appreciate what he brings.
Great Carr game, he had some lucky bounces but played tough and hit some good 3's. Appleby did exactly what he needed to do, nice to win going away without him having to try and take over. Davien is still working back in but hit a couple good ones.

Then obviously, the star of the show was Damari. He gets the crowd going more than anyone and when he's hot it's so damn fun. He shot great, BUT to me everything else he did was much more important. He passed up shots multiple to get teammates better shots. He rebounded, defended, was running the break. Was energized the whole time, seemed like the team and whole place fed off him. Was really, really fun to watch. I know he won't shoot that way again probably, but if he keeps everything else up he takes this team to a new level.

Great game all around. One thing- Williamson appeared to be on an upswing until last night, but he was awful in the first half. We will need him, as he is the only bench guy that could conceivably give 10+ during a game.
Daivien really struggles against ball pressure and physical teams. Having Cam capable of bringing the ball up in addition to Tyree has been huge. When Daivien was our best ball handler last year there were times like against Miami at home that we struggled to even get the ball across half court vs the press. Teams copy-catted that and it was one of the main factors in us fading down the stretch and missing the tournament.

Looked like he was limping at times during the game, not sure if he retweaked something.

Cam's ability to handle the ball in traffic is improving and really makes him difficult to guard. He can overpower most typical two guards. He's quick enough to get around all but the very few really quick bigs. He's gotten better at kicking the ball out when he gets doubled down low. And he istrong at the rim. If Cam continues to progress' Wake may go farther than most expect.

Carr and Klintman after an offseason in the weight room are going to be really interesting.

I assume, given his nature, Carr will be fully attentive to weightlifting technique and proper form.
Believe it or not Carr put on about 15 pounds this summer with the Wake strength staff. I don't think his frame is the kind that will easily add the 25ish additional pounds he'd need to be closer to a PJ Hall type, but even another 10 pounds of muscle would be great.

Bolded part for sure. I don't think it's surprising therefore that he had the game he did. He will always be a streaky shooter, but those streaks go more in your favor when your shot selection is more selective. And when he's shooting better, he's going to be more engaged overall.

He actually looks to me like he may have put on a few pounds since the beginning of the season. I mean, he's not going to be mistaken for The Hulk, but an extra 10 lbs. would go a long way.

Found it pretty funny that Childress complained about that technical and then later said the foul on Cam was a good call when the FSU dude clearly shoulder-checked him while he was in perfect guarding position.

Basically his mantra is "only pussies fall down, just play on but also make fun of them" which makes a lot of sense in context of the McInnis crossover. Bet he's the guy in pickup games that never, ever calls fouls.

I think what he said was that Cam could've held his position better/stronger.

I've seen Cam do some flopping so I wasn't surprised to see him whistled for one, but I tend to agree with your take. He took a pretty good hit and I didn't think he was flopping, but you know opposing coaches are going to work the refs for them to call the flop on him.

Do they call flopping on offensive players, because I think when Cam is begging for a foul on a drive is where he is worst. Very Manu-like in exaggerating contact.

That call was terrible. It may have been a no call and play on, but there's no way to call a foul on Cam where he's not yielding his ground and doesn't initiate the contact.

Following Monsanto this season feels like I'm watching a player from Last Chance U...
Outside the box idea for Wake athletics: allow a camera crew to do a Last Chance U type show with some degree of locker room / practice access. In doing so the company producing / airing the series would need to compensate the players for the use of their name, image, and likeness, and we as fans would get some awesome inside looks at the program.

we did something similar in 2004 IIRC

I was sort of the same mind as Childress on flopping calls, but then I saw the reply of the one last night. That was comical. I laughed out loud. It looked like he took a shot and then slid into second base to break up a double play. You could injure someone.

2005. The Season. That’s where we got that clip of Michael Jordan calling Chris Paul during a team meal on the road.
Wow. Oh, how college athletics have fallen to the beast of football money... Must have been an awesome time to be a Wake basketball fan with an in-tact, regional ACC with three- and four-years players. The streaming environment now makes a show like that pretty easily distributable. ACCN should do an all-access documentary during the ACC Tournament and air it after the season is over
