MBB Game 20: UVA @ LJVM - Saturday 2pm - ESPNU

Tyree was definitely gassed and something happened to his left hand when he hit the deck one time. He was off the rest of the game. Part of what was wearing him out is they kept switching on defense and he ended up inside a LOT trying to guard a much bigger player

...and yet he took a shot on what felt like every possession when we were trying to take the lead. Was that coach's instructions? Was it trying to play hero ball?

Yeah when he traveled and “fell on his wrist” all on his own

You're the numbers guy. So expand on this..
But uva only shot 40% from the field. That will often get it done. Just not when they shoot 44% from deep.

They made more threes than they normally would (or anybody normally would) but making a 3 is 1.5x as important as making a 2 so that makes up for a lot.

Even with Virginia’s very solid offense (ranked top 20 offensively per possession) we dropped 10 more spots in defense to like 150th in the country for allowing 76 points in a 65 possession game. For comparison we are around 30th in offense.

UVA won the tempo battle - which they normally do - and then punished us for it by capitalizing on threes. That’s not really abnormal either as they’re also top 20 in the country in 3P% on the year

Yeah. Daivien is averaging the fewest points of his career at 8.9. He averaged 9.5 as a freshman at ETSU. That's not just minutes. His per 40 scoring is 13.5 which is also the lowest of his career. Daivien's worst season from inside the arc was .521 two seasons ago. He's .321 inside the arc this season. His three point stats are simliar to last year but he's giving us nothing on the dribble drive. Last year, he had a few plays like Appleby every game.

He should be anchoring the bench. Instead he has 13 points total in the last four games.
This is what drove me crazy today and probably cost us the game. Coach took out Monsanto 8 mins in for Daivien. And this is when UVa went on a 22-2 run. And it seemed like it was Daivien's man hitting open 3's every time. Over and over they would have a wide open 3 and he was 2 or 3 steps behind. And coach left him in for 8 or 9 minutes and they buried us. Once he was taken off the court, we made a run and got it to 10 at half. I think he played 2 or 3 minutes towards the end of the game when it was over. I just don't understand why he kept him in so long knowing he isn't 100%. I would have rather had Lucas Taylor in just for the defense, since Daivian isn't even contributing on offense now either. I can't find +/- in any box score, but i would bet he was -15 today in 10 minutes of playing time.

Also, the Joel was rocking today. Its the loudest its been in a long time.

It was worse. Much worse. Daivien was -29 in 12 minutes.

Going even deeper, check the Analytics tab.

Floor%: Floor Percentage is the percentage of a player's possessions on which at least one point is scored.

Daivien's Floor% was 0. By comparison, Bobi's Floor% was 100% in 9 minutes. Both were low usage (1.6%).

By the way, we've been giving Marsh a lot of shit but he was +14 and with 72.2% Floor% in 25 minutes.

He’s been kinda quiet on here the last few weeks. Must not have good WiFi at his Cincinnati hotel

Think about it. If the main topic you post is how the basketball arena isn't good for winning, but the men's basketball team has one of the best home records in the country, when would you post about it? Exactly. During football season.

Well he wants an 8-9000 seat arena and what happened when we had 12k+ there today? Lost for the first time this season. Makes you wonder.

yeah, guy next to me at the game said it was -23 at the half. That's just brutally bad. Daivion was so much better a few years back. He's really regressed. It's gotta be injury.

Daivion just doesn't move very well anymore. The quick first step is gone. That sure looks like the injury hampering him to me.

Sad to lose, but proud of the team for fighting, I continue to stan Monsanto. I hope this isn’t Zalin to the almost win at Duke last year. Next three games are must wins IMO. We are good enough to do it.

Daivien was -22 over 10:07 in the first half. He was on the floor at the end of the half when Damari fouled for another -1

He was -3 over 1:10 in the second half. Came in again in the final minute to foul but that shouldn’t really count for a plus minus.
