So, why do economies need to constantly grow? Like, the planet is a finite system that will at some point set absolute boundaries on economic growth. I think that is an inescapable fact. So, why do we have an economic system completely focused on constant growth?

Not really. Best estimates indicate that there are 3 Billion fewer birds in North American then we had in 1970. We are basically replacing wild animals and plants with humans in terms of biomass, and I get that people think people are more important, but that is a system bound for disaster.
