Sam Hartman

Did the wealthy donor still give the money? If so, that is all that matters to most ADs.
He did and you are right the school got the money, so they were happy. I think the issue was more that Richmond soccer was a fairly decent program, and it was tossed away to appease some donor so his kid would go to Richmond.

Correct. Part of why he transferred to LSU. That and State’s coach told him he wouldnt have him play in the field. Felt being a college DH would ultimately hurt his draft potential

Really good kid.

Some college phenoms get enticed by schools like Wake Forest and Vanderbilt with NIL deals and some with positional deference. LSU should consider themselves lucky. The Tigers are ranked the No. 1 team in the country as they head into the season, and Tommy Tanks is a big reason why.

My stepson and Tommy were teammates (tommy a year ahead) from 6th grade through Tommy's Jr year, when he transferred to IMG. Our HS coach didn't like his approach at the plate and wanted him to hit more line drives.

They work out together in the offseason at a performance center here in Tampa area that has a ton of MLB guys as well. Pretty cool to see the two of them working out with JT Realmuto, Aaron Judge and most of the Rays pitching staff.

Like I said, Tommy is one of the nicest and most respectful young men i've had the opportunity of meeting through the baseball community

Anyone watch the Blue/Gold game today? It appears to only be available via Peacock for replay.

I did find some highlights here:

Like I said when he announced, Hatman will shine with quality players around him at every position. I think he'll be in the Heisman talk just as I predicted for Walker

Looked pretty good in those highlights. Actually did the slow mesh look on a typical handoff on the first play. Easy win for his Gold team. Had a couple of TD passes, an INT, and ran one in (in a red jersey like a donk).

The following came from A ND friend of mine...I'm actually very happy he had a good spring.

Hartman completed 13-of-16 for 189 yards and two touchdowns while scoring the second of the three touchdowns on a less-than-ideal afternoon to throw the football. Wind, rain, sleet, even some signs of snow punctuated the type of day it was for the Irish. Hartman didn’t bat an eye.

“Man, he played well today,” said Irish head coach Marcus Freeman. “He played really well and it’s really good to see. As the head coach of this football team, I’m like, ‘Yeah, that’s what you want to see.’ That’s what I expected.

“When you go looking for a transfer portal quarterback, you don’t look for the second, third or fourth (best). You look for the best player in the country that would fit in your locker room. Sam Hartman showed today why he was extremely successful at Wake Forest and (why) I think he will be extremely successful here.”

• Hartman played just one half – actually, one series short of a half -- but it was plenty to signal what is likely to come this fall. The Irish scored touchdowns on Hartman’s first two series, inexplicably called a running play on 3rd-and-9 to end the third series, and then added the third touchdown in Hartman’s fourth and final series.

I could be wrong but I believe if Sam has a great year it makes Wake Forest football even better. Sam was ranked so low coming out of high school that a ND would have never looked at him nor would look at a guy like him in the future. Blue Blood programs might start moving to Grad transfer QB's in the future.

I’m not being a jerk but how does that help Wake? We get all our good qbs poached?

If he succeeds we can at least put the stupid “system QB” narrative to rest.
I’ve never heard anyone say we have a “system qb.” They say that we run the slow-mesh (which we really don’t much), but never a “system qb.”

Yeah. The narratives are that Wake won because of a tricky slow mesh and Hartman was a once-in-a-generation Wake QB.

I would optimistically say that it brings more talented players into the program, then it is up to Clawson to either keep them here through persuasion or improve the level and recognition of the program so they have no reason to transfer. But having all of our best players poached before their Jr year would be a bad version of this.

Sam gave Wake the best QB run in our history and waited it out w Jamie when he could have left. He has a Wake degree and then because of his development, career and Covid was given an extra year and w Clawsons blessing is going to the #1 brand in college football. In each game he plays his success will be mentioned which is good for Wake. Even Freeman mentioned Wake in his comments which was a class act.

I would feel different if Sam left Wake before he graduated but he didn’t and it’s allowed us to keep Mitch. Sam is just going to get a grad degree at a different school than his undergraduate degree; many people do that.

I hope he goes 11-1 this year.

Riley had a pretty good run as well. And he didn’t have great receivers or a great OC.

I don’t want ND going 11-1 because that will probably put them in the CFP. The only way that’s acceptable is if their win against SoCal keeps the Trojans out of the CFP.
