The following came from A ND friend of mine...I'm actually very happy he had a good spring.
Hartman completed 13-of-16 for 189 yards and two touchdowns while scoring the second of the three touchdowns on a less-than-ideal afternoon to throw the football. Wind, rain, sleet, even some signs of snow punctuated the type of day it was for the Irish. Hartman didn’t bat an eye.
“Man, he played well today,” said Irish head coach
Marcus Freeman. “He played really well and it’s really good to see. As the head coach of this football team, I’m like, ‘Yeah, that’s what you want to see.’ That’s what I expected.
“When you go looking for a transfer portal quarterback, you don’t look for the second, third or fourth (best). You look for the best player in the country that would fit in your locker room.
Sam Hartman showed today why he was extremely successful at Wake Forest and (why) I think he will be extremely successful here.”
• Hartman played just one half – actually, one series short of a half -- but it was plenty to signal what is likely to come this fall. The Irish scored touchdowns on Hartman’s first two series, inexplicably called a running play on 3rd-and-9 to end the third series, and then added the third touchdown in Hartman’s fourth and final series.
