The Manning Buyout

He wasn’t a good head coach in the NFL. He had Peyton Manning and called a bond head timeout vs the Jets in the playoffs. He was a well respected assistant coach in the NFL. Grobe won twice as many games as Caldwell from day one.

I don't want to have to over-moderate this thread, so let's all be careful about the words that are coming out of our keyboards.
I don’t mind the personal, inappropriate attacks on my alcoholism and other character traits.

It shows Wake Forest alums actually have a pulse and can get mad. It’s refreshing frankly to see that. Maybe they can translate the passion into actually getting things done to get us out of our century as a bottom feeder.

Top 30 academic school. Law #22.
I saw the law school’s rise in the rankings this year. So cute.

Maybe the law school should hire the folks at Old Town. They are very good at politicking for vanity rankings.

Reason I say that is that the first part of defense is putting in the effort to get into the defensive court, identify your defensive assignment and get in position to do it before the ball crosses half court.

Yes, really excellent defense does require skills. But the most highly skilled defender is pretty useless if the ball crosses half court before he is in position, ready and willing to play D.
It’s also scheme and personnel. I can’t believe we are still litigating Skip Prosser’s merits in 2023, but c’est la vie. Skip prioritized getting out and pushing the ball. It attracted talented players who wanted to play fast and score. It worked when we had good PG play. It failed when we did not. We also ran small guard heavy lineups because of a focus on scoring. Again, it worked until it didn’t. It’s not altogether different from Clawson’s approach recently. In an ideal world you would have 10-12 two way elite players on your roster that could score and have length. Turns out most programs want those guys too. If Odom, who is also a good coach, were some savant, why wasn’t he successful at darla moore state? sure he won back to back NITs, but he never had a winning record in the sec. His last two seasons at sakeralina were very similar to Skip’s. Difference is Skip had a roster of 4 NBA guys coming in after his two year rebuild.

If he had 20m in the bank he'd have a russian mail order bride on his arm right now. Maybe even a puppy that makes his eye twitch while he fights the urge to kick it.
He can make a pledge. Let’s call it a structured settlement. Wait for those mesothelioma checks to come in.

Wait dis dood donates to Duke, Miami, BC, and FSU?

Yeah. I don’t think that Wake should be concerned with the opinions of someone who gives more to other schools and also donates to ACC opponents.

Like, if you went to law school at Duke and then donate to Duke Law, that would be fine….but 4 ACC opponents? Wtf?

He won with the Lions. The Lions. Took them to the playoffs after Megatron retired. Other Lions coaches have only had two seasons better than Caldwell's worst (7-9) since 2000.

Nobody disliked Caldwell. But plenty of people thought Wake could do better at head coach.

He was a good head coach. He had a .563 winning percentage with the freaking Lions.

If he was white he’d still be a head coach in the NFL.

If DR is actually an alcoholic then making joke and taking shots at that should be way out of bounds.

Attacking his General d-baggery(salute) is fair but no need to pile on a man’s demons.

What’s with the $5k thing ?

Self high-five. He made a comment one time about donating that amount and it seemed to get lost in a bigger discussion. But I caught it and thought, the guy who’s been blaming all the alumni around him and talks a big money game gives $5k a year?

So I brought it up on that thread and others subsequently began calling him out. He likely regrets disclosing that figure as it destroys what little semblance of credibility his arguments held.

Yeah. That's fair. And he's been very public about his alcohol issues. But unnecessarily bagging on people that work hard and make an honest living warrants whatever you get.
