Saudi World Golf Tour 2022/2023 Thread

Does any of this change whether or not you will watch tour events? I want to say it will for me, but it won't. And that's the brilliance of sports-washing. Sports means too much to most of us. We will be angry or outraged for a bit, then go along with our normal sports consumption
I was a casual fan before. Would tune in on Sunday if Wake guys were in the lead or for majors sometimes.

Now I don't give a shit.

I want to say it will but I don't know. I watch the tour most weeks but probably not as much as I used to. I know I will continue to watch the majors.

I also agree that this is the last we will hear about moral outrage of Saudi cash in sports. Everyone will be on the same page from here on out.

I'll watch more now, in 2024. PGA events kind of sucked without more of the best players and bigger names, even if some of them are re getting a little older now.

To me, the bigger issue is how the money is allocated. If a good amount goes to propping up smaller events, that helps the rank and file members, and I'm fine with that. But if it mostly goes to exclusive events and to mainly the high ranked players, then that leaves a really sour taste, and I can see that affecting how much PGA golf I watch. If anything, it might get me watching more LPGA golf in the Spring and Summer. Especially if we get some more Deacs on the tour.

I think they don't give a shit as in they don't give a shit about women's rights and happiness.
The "joke" is that they give a shit enough to actively not allow women to have rights outside of what a man in their life allows rather than indifference aka not giving a shit.

While very unlikely, there are rumors that the PGA Tour players may withdraw en masse from PGA events until Monahan resigns. Will be dependent on how today's meeting goes. FWIW, the PGA Tour players are independent contractors, and that is not the LIV model or the model that establishing a profit for corporation running the new tour would follow. Not clear, but there is talk that thePGA players committee must approve such a deal, which is not a given. Even some crazy thoughts about the players attempting to unseat Monahan and replace him with Tiger.

Also, not clear what the networks (CBS, NBC and ESPN) role going forward; not beyond the realm that the players attempt a revolt and start their own tour. Monahan is counting on the money just being too good to turn down.

so they would be employees and the tour would pay for travel, medical, etc ? I find that difficult to imagine.

Depends on how far they plan to take the team concept. Could be that John Rahm plays for Team Titleist, and gets $50 million a year.

If the players don't like it, they can start their own tour.

Good thing families don’t count on you people for jobs….
The most telling thing about your financial situation is you think Bill Haas was offered enough to affect his family for generations. Even if he was offered $25 million (we know that's not realistic or even close) then that is NOT generational wealth. That's a fart in a whirlwind these days dude and maybe just maybe helps one generation some.

You knew exactly what I meant.
