WF Baseball Off-season Thread

The video ball in Vegas is probably a better goal.
I've seen it a few times on Summer League coverage and I can't tell if it's cool, annoying, or both.

Maybe make the left field wall a massive top hat video board.

I bet the Sports Analytics folks on the team could tell us how many HR's would've been lost if we moved it back like 10-20 feet. My guess it, more opponent HR's would be taken away than Wake's this past year.

I don’t understand why we need to change our ballpark. We do just fine with it, and it’s well within a reasonable standard. Who cares if other teams don’t like it, it seems to work for us.

I’d be way more interested in changing the turf color, which isn’t great

I do agree with this - I watched nearly all our games on tv this year and it can be damn hard to follow where the ball is in the infield with the net and the color of the turf.

Can someone remind me what fall ball looks like? Number of games, structure, how official is it (i.e. are they just scrimmages or is the ACC maintaining standings, etc.)?
The NCAA allows teams to schedule 56 games. Obviously most of them take place in the spring but you can have a some as fall exihibiton games. They have to take place during a 45 day window from September through November. and the days used for practices and games count against the 132 game/practices allowed by the NCAA

Just doing something like this would make it respectable. It would have the RF/LF at like 320 (instead of 300/310) which is closer to the NCAA recommended 330. We already have the recommended 400 straightaway to center. It would have some wicked corners though.
IIRC there's a door opening right into that RF corner from that building there. Obviously that can be moved, but I just wonder if the juice is worth the squeeze. I think you can raise the walls a bit, and you probably want to with a new video board unless it just goes right where the old one is.

Why don't they just do basically what football does and have like 3 weekend series/weeks of practice in the fall separate from the actual season?

All the MLB studies I have read over the years showed that having an extreme hitter friendly park negatively influenced overall wins. Those teams suffered more when playing away from home.

Would we play better in Omaha if our home park was more neutral? Maybe someone can answer that. Not I.

Can't play better in Omaha unless you get to Omaha.

I think Omaha is going to be a crapshoot year in and year out no matter what. Us having a small ballpark seemingly impacted us this year, but if the wind blows out during the LSU series like it did for the championship series, we may be singing a completely different tune.

After the CWS, I was thinking that the biggest detriment of having a smaller ballpark is not on the # of HRs, but on the comfort of the OF and where they should play/angles they should take.
I don't think that cost us any games.
