Fast Car

After a quick search the kids on an island seems to be a direct reference to the Epstein stuff. So yeah even more unhinged than I originally thought. Just a classic far right conspiracy song being pushed by plenty of folks in the movement. It’s a cult. And it’s fascism baby

To be fair, the rich, fat redneck has been covering it live since he was a poor, fatter redneck who didn't sound stupid singing about despair and regret due to poverty at the time. He just now has the industry clout to both ask and pay the rich, black woman who wrote it to allow him to formally put it on a record. Is said rich, black woman self-aware enough to know that she should apparently no longer sing about it either?

That said, I think the original song was mediocre and significantly overplayed at the time, to the point it is one of my most despised songs of all time. This cover is even worse. It has been years since I've seen him do it live, but those versions were significantly better than this version that ended up being released, but I still can't stand the song itself because of how much the original got played to death.
i know i'm shocked to hear this

Full lyrics:

I've been sellin' my soul, workin' all day
Overtime hours for bullshit pay
So I can sit out here and waste my life away
Drag back home and drown my troubles away

Alright...fine start...pay sucks gotta get home and drink up classic fare!

It's a damn shame what the world's gotten to
For people like me and people like you
Wish I could just wake up and it not be true
But it is, oh, it is

"things used to be so much better...." okay veering slightly into something...

Livin' in the new world
With an old soul
These rich men north of Richmond, Lord knows they all
Just wanna have total control
Wanna know what you think, wanna know what you do
And they don't think you know, but I know that you do
'Cause your dollar ain't shit and it's taxed to no end
'Cause of rich men north of Richmond

Tax complaints !

I wish politicians would look out for miners
And not just minors on an island somewhere
Lord, we got folks in the street, ain't got nothin' to eat
And the obese milkin' welfare

I'm not sure what the "minors on an island" is referencing at all beyond potential Epstein implications but that may be reading too far into it. Just US foreign aid in general, look domestic instead? Okay...sure. And then bam "people are starving but fatties are abusing the welfare system." Wild leap.

Well, God, if you're 5-foot-3 and you're 300 pounds
Taxes ought not to pay for your bags of fudge rounds
Young men are puttin' themselves six feet in the ground
'Cause all this damn country does is keep on kickin' them down

One of the worst verses I ever recall in a song. Truly stupid and doesn't make any coherent point whatsoever.

Overall...pretty clear cut far right angle with some dog whistles worst case. Best case, a white guy whining about how the world is so hard these days and it used to be so good - fat people ruined it for everybody.

I'd give it a 1.2/10
I take the fatty on food stamps section to be a complaint that the government is spending tax money on people that don't need it while doing nothing to help working class men that are choosing suicide in record numbers out of desperation.

Overall song is too political but ok. 6/10

yeah but he's bitching about being overtaxed while the government isn't helping anyone out.

the government hardly takes anything from coal miners. suck it up

Seems like one powerful lobby isn’t really that concerned about those suicides because the method used isn’t supposed to matter.

I haven't and I love me some snacks. Not Little Debbie stuff so much though.

It’s a stupid fucking line from a stupid fucking perspective and it’s highly indicative of crabs in a bucket mentality that is poisonous to humanity. What fucking good does it do for a fat person to punch down on slightly fatter people, or for a poor person to insult slightly poorer people? So you can feel a little bit better about working your life away at a shit job for shit pay. There’s not a goddamn thing to be proud of in that. You want to break your back to survive, while other people are using ingenuity to survive? What the fuck do you think happens on Wall Street and Silicon Valley everyday? Ingenuity is sucking every little drop from the government you can find. Fuck your pride you little QAnonford Sons chubby ginger bitch.
