Conference Expansion: Stanford, California and SMU Join the ACC

This thread has 3 levels of stupid:
ACC to Europe
My law degree is better than your law degree
Debating the popularity/importance of College Hockey and Women's college basketball.

Keep on living you glorious idiotic thread
Glad you recognize Wake to the Ivy League or ACC invites Harvard, Yale, Princeton, and Penn are reasonable considerations.

You forgot the repeated idiocy of "we just need to force ND to join the conference!"

Currie was on WFNZ this morning ducking and dodging every question about conference realignment. He did take some time to gleefully report that Wake's football TV ratings are higher than NC State and Duke, and only slightly lower than UNC.
Why should anyone accept Currie's claim about Wake's football TV ratings? Did he cite a source for that?

There are studies out there of college football TV ratings, though all of them are imperfect in some manner. However I have not seen one where Wake ranks above NCSU.

Earlier in this thread, I cited this study and several people claimed that it was completely invalid because it did not count games on conference networks (such as ACCN)--apparently those games aren't rated. I agree that this is a weakness of the study, but looking at the ranking, does anyone think that it would be significantly different if such ratings were available. I don't think so.

Here's a link to another study from an earlier year. This article is more clear on the problems of trying to measure and rank all the teams.

In both cases, I think Wake comes out looking very good, especially considering all the weaknesses that it has as a TV draw (football history, private school, small enrollment and alumni base etc.). But I won't accept Currie's claim about Wake outranking NCSU and I don't think anyone else should without knowing what study or ratings source he is using.

In any case, it's still true that neither UNC, NCSU, Duke or Wake are among the titans of college football TV ratings. In the ACC, like it of not, those schools are still Clemson, FL State and Miami.

Games on ACCN were counted as 0. That's the problem. We all watched these games so clearly more than 0 people watched them.

Currie was probably using known data which may skew towards Wake if we had fewer games on TV.

Would you have it any other way?

Earlier in this thread I demonstrated why those “averages” are bullshit

Yes, but did you see that article that CaptRenault posted in its entirety?

If the reports are true that the BIG and SEC aren't interested in Clemson and FSU, which I doubt, that's about the best news in years for Wake Forest. If everyone is really stuck in the ACC for 5 more years, who knows, we might actually survive by then.
SEC won’t express public interest in either as long as the ACC is viable. ESPN won’t allow it.

In that 5 year period, the ACC schools will out earn the Big 12 schools. When is the Big 12 GOR expiring? Teams may want to jump to the ACC then.

“Known data?” Known to John Currie and no else.

It’s verifiable fact that last year, Wake and Miami played 3 common ACC opponents and Wake outdrew Miami in TV viewership by 61%.

It’s verifiable fact that over the last two seasons, Wake’s games against Clemson and UNC had higher TV viewership than FSU’s games against those schools.

Wake’s AD should be advertising those verifiable facts. Especially with FSU acting like crybabies.
