Car Insurance/Totaled Car Question

Had USAA for an at fault accident and for a no-fault accident. For the no-fault accident when I hit a deer we got what I considered great treatment. For the at-fault accident my wife rear ended someone at a yellow light and USAA didn’t give us near enough to cover repairs, even considering the deductible.

They were fine for our at fault accident. Just had to pay the deductible.

They paid the shop directly for everything other than the deductible.

Probably the only negative experience with USAA, especially settlement related, I’ve heard in 20 years

I have Amica for home insurance so they were my first look when I bought a car but the rates were super uncompetitive for auto

I am willing to pay a little above average for their better reputation in customer service and claims processing, but that was like 10% extra for home and 80% for auto

yeah i mean wouldn't pay a super high premium for it, either. but in terms of cust. satisfaction and service they are consistenly #1 year over year over year. and they don't even really advertise b/c they don't need to.

IIRC, Consumer Reports was recommending Geico over USAA for auto.

We looked at switching, but decided against it because USAA has always been great.

I have pay-per-mile car insurance

hopefully it's never needed, but I'll be pretty curious to see what a claims process looks like

Yeah, everything is/will keep going up in pretty much every insurance policy that you own anyway. The country is getting wrecked by mother nature and that is going to show up big time in the coming years on insurance policies (if it's not already).

Writing policies down here on the coast of SC is not pretty at all. Tons of companies are pulling out and there aren't a lot of good choices because nobody wants to write here.
