I think it's fine for reasonable minds to disagree about what needs to go on in the future/the rest of the year.
Personally, I think it's a very good mix of the line being poor, and Griffis having little to no confidence in what he's doing out there when the lights come on. The decision-making has been questionable at best, and that's probably doing it more justice than it deserves. It's not all black and white with just one thing or another.
I have no idea what we've got in Kern behind Griffis, but I do know the staff has way more intel than almost anybody here on the boards in what goes on there. I think it's a really fine line to walk between getting Griffis a breather to let him see the game a bit differently, and just getting rid of any confidence that he has in himself at all. I also am at least intrigued to see what Kern could bring to the table.
Something has to change, and if our line doesn't block well then it's not going to give any QB back there much of a chance. I do think we need to at least consider changing some of our play calls and getting Griffis out of the pocket more on rollouts. His pocket presence is probably his worst attribute, and he's being asked to make a good number of decisions back there, most of them with not much time to throw it. When he does have time, he just doesn't have the internal clock necessary to succeed. Is this something that can improve to the point where he can be reliable for us? I really don't know the answer to that, but I feel like you can get better with time as far as getting the ball out and where it needs to go, BUT, at the same time, a lot of guys just innately know when the ball has to come out. Mitch just doesn't have that right now.
Really good time for a bye week to try to get something in the works that will allow us to be successful for the rest of the year,
