Partially true, but venue owners also get squeezed or even sold to LiveNation itself. I know you just think “if owners sell, it’s because they want to make money, we should applaud both them and the big company for their feats of business” which as ever just completely ignores the experience of patrons of the business itself. The problem is the venues. They love LiveNation. They want to lock in deals for as long as the government will allow (I think 10 years is the max now). An artist could, in theory, do whatever they want to do... But they have to have a venue at which to play their music. Those are limited.
what is quality?A very interesting question, one which offers some interesting parallels with the visual arts, and I’d add a third dimension, which is does it suggest also higher quality?
What that article describes is this...Lol no, Livenation made 16.7 Bn last year last time I checked, and all my favorite bands can’t afford to tour anymore.
It's not just Taylor Swift: Musicians struggle to afford touring
A pure love of touring and music isn't enough to pay the bills. But that's the trade-off industry realities are forcing artists to make.www.businessinsider.com
That's not Ticketmaster's fault. It is more because the secondary ticket market has become wide open due to the internet (and specifically sites like StubHub and SeatGeek). The secondary market used to be REALLY shady and now it is less so. That's in large part due to the technology that Ticketmaster/LiveNation have developed to combat counterfeit tickets.
I appreciated it. Thanks. Also, do you think that we should make pickles accessible to everyone?#breakfasttalk is a chat thread classic
y not play in some farmer's field 20 miles outside each city
Subjective, probably a chapter for each class - popular(?) psychology? I don’t know where you get that notion, Psychology is usually taught sequentially from past to present, or by schools of theory. Fraud just most well known because he talked about funking and sunkingpop psych basically abandons everything after Freud afaik
how in-depth did u study Freud
well I thought we were talking about artArtists should give that a shot and see how profitable it is.
I don't know much about publicly owned venues or what their aims should be. That's an interesting question.a lot of the Ticketmaster venues are publicly owned (but I think LN owns a lot of their own venues??), so are they generating a lot of revenue for the community or should they be better looking out for their residents by working to make more affordable ticket options?
