Chances on Grobe to Penn State?

Not even Lane Kiffen is batshit crazy enough to even ponder taking Penn State.

I would be curious to see how Wake fans reacted if Grobe took the Penn State. Reading on the boards lately, I have an impression that alot of fans aren't as thrilled with Grobe as they once were.

I see what you're saying. I'm just not sure they'll be able to conduct business while leaving no stone unturned in the program. It's not just about paid staff, it's about everybody associated with the program from boosters or hangers on to even players and former players.

This is a HUGE stretch based on a grand jury indictment. What culpability do boosters, hangers on, players and former players have in this situation unless they had direct knowledge of the alleged incidents? You have a new AD, a new president and presumably a new coaching staff by January or February.

McQueary has come out now and says he did report it to the police. If that turns out to be true, then a huge part of the shitstorm surrounding Paterno has been unwarranted. He testified to the GJ that he was never informed of the 1998 incident. If that proves to be untrue he will be indicted for perjury. Otherwise, it may turn out that the only incident he was aware of was reported to the police by the person who witnessed it. What else was Joe supposed to do after that?

How about distance himself and his program as far as way from Sandusky as possible? None of this is unwarranted. Paterno kept him around. He should've been sounding an alarm bell loud and clear.

Paterno didn't keep him around. Whatever privileges and facilities access he had were part of the retirement package he negotiated with the university. His office wasn't even in the Lasch building where all the football offices are. He was excommunicated to a building that is mostly filled with locker rooms and offices for other sports.

What evidence do you have that Paterno kept him around? The other circumstantial evidence I know of shows that his separation from the football program was very pronounced.

Please do not attempt to downplay the amount of leverage Joe Paterno has in and around Penn State. If Paterno tells the administration to keep that fucking pedo away from his program and school, the guy is gone. Paterno and Sandusky were friends for a long time and I think he bought into the facade.

Why keep the secretaries? Secretaries #1 job is office gossip. If anybody knew, then those bitches knew. They knew.

Possibly. Just saying those people are usually local, not brought in with the staff. A lot of your best college beat people get their scoops from the secretaries they've known for 30+ years, including one in North Carolina.

Dave Joyner steps down from the BoT to take over as acting AD.

Search on.

That's my point. We don't know.

It would be much worse for Penn State if they make all these new hires and then find out down the road that someone who still has access to the program was involved.

I agree with the first part, but not the second. From what I know and heard he was ostracized by the football program, including when other coaches encountered him in the weight room, etc.

And you're right, he and Sandusky were friends for years. But then in 1999 he informed his heir apparent that he wasn't going to be the next head coach. I asked you before if you had specific evidence that Paterno kept him involved in the program. I am open to hearing about it if you do.

I don't deny Paterno's power at PSU, but he didn't run the university or the DA's office that declined to prosecute in at least one instance. Curley and Shultz were the only ones indicted so far, and it wouldn't surprise me if Spanier is eventually indicted as well. And there is a lot of interesting info still coming out so I didn't think anyone has the full picture yet. Hell, Gov. Corbett approved a $3 million gant to Second Mile this past Summer even though he knew Sandusky was under investigation while Corbett was the Attorney General. Suddenly now he is screaming for heads to roll. WTF?

There is a lot more to all of this than meets they eye. I think the rush to judgment on Paterno and McQueary has been unfortunate. I don't know if they will be fully exonerated (morally and otherwise), but there are certainly some indications that this whole thing was bigger than even Joe Paterno.

Simply being "around" is involvement enough. The guy is a predator and used his connections at and around PSU to find his victims. That should be enough for anyone to be concerned.

My judgement on Paterno is based primarily on his own words when describing what McQueary told him. "Specifically, Paterno testified under oath that McQueary had said that Sandusky was engaged in fondling or "doing something of a sexual nature" to a boy."

That happened in 2002, three years after Sandusky was, as you say, pronouncedly excommunicated from the program. He still has access to facilities?

Sandusky's own claims that he's not a pedophile but admits to having taken showers with and touching boys is like saying you're not a drinker while swigging from a Jack Daniels bottle.

My judgement is based on what these people are admitting they were told.

Don't think PSU would look seriously at Jim Grobe...but if they did, and they offered, you can't fault him for leaving.

Our search for a JG replacement would be an interesting search as well...

"Am I sexually attracted to young boys?.....sexually attracted?...Hmmm"

Offer Dave Christensen, hope he says yes.

There is really a lack of experienced head coaching timber in the non AQ ranks right now other than the guys that just aren't moving (like Chris Ault).

I think Grobe makes perfect sense at PSU. It'll buy them a year or three of a stable program before making a splash hire after an older, respected coach has restored some of its reputation.

But I don't see PSU shelling out $3M to get Grobe.

And again, I will state that all of those perks were part of his retirement package WITH THE UNIVERSITY. I think the fact that Joe didn't even give him an office in the Lasch Building is very telling. This was a coach who was given ALL the credit for beating Miami in the Fiesta Bowl. I asked for specific reports of his involvement with the football program. I haven't seen any yet, but would like to hear about them if they are out there.

Another tidbit that has come out today is that Corbett received significant campaign contributions from some big donors at Second Mile.

Like I said earlier in the thread, I think this thing will turn out to be much bigger than Paterno and McQueary.

And again, if Paterno wanted this guy removed from his program, his retirement WITH THE UNIVERSITY notwithstanding, the guy isn't in the fucking shower at a football facility.
