I really think using Marruci gave the team a spark. The celebration after the game was so emotional, and I still think we should use him against State. It is not about talent or reps, it is strictly about an emotional lift.

The boos from the stands Saturday when Mitch is announced as the starter will be the loudest the stadium has been all year.

Wasn’t the theory we trotted Mitch out against FSU to get Tino ready for Duke, how’d that turn out? Mitch did enough Thursday night, in the coaches eyes I’m afriad, to not make a change.Even with the extra days to prepare, you think we're going to trot out turnover Mitch again instead of Kern or Tino??
It will depend on the ambient air temperature at kickoff, along with the football inflation levels. These two factors have a huge impact on Mitch's ability to hold onto the football.Even with the extra days to prepare, you think we're going to trot out turnover Mitch again instead of Kern or Tino??

Add in a qb who holds the ball too long (or loses the ball), has little to no pocket presence, and can't run outside of the pocket when receivers aren't openThe size issue with Griffis... while it shouldn't be a determining factor in isolation, our propensity for the slow mesh and near-the-line throws feels like the coaching staff is saying "it's OK to have deflected passes 1 out of every X attempts (5?)"
Deflected passes are empty plays, and ones we can't afford if we're to stay on any down & distance schedule. Incredibly frustrating to watch.
Totes, I was just referencing the size issue alone. We can debate the food pyramid of QB requirements all day long with this candidateAdd in a qb who holds the ball too long (or loses the ball), has little to no pocket presence, and can't run outside of the pocket when receivers aren't open
Yes. Yes we have. No commits from a P5 caliber QB since Hartman in July 2016.Beaten to death, I know. But how have we failed so miserably in talent evaluation and recruiting that we find ourselves with no one worth a damn to play QB? Especially on the heels of reasonably high level of recent success and huge facilities upgrades. Seems like a major swing and miss
It’s so bad that Clawson resorted to the “he looks good in practice” narrative. That seems like he’s admitting the rest of us see a bad QB.
Good postWhat bothers me about how Clawson has handled Griffis is that Clawson had to know he was taking a bit of a flyer on Griffis:
Size and height: well below average
Speed: average at best
Arm strength: below average
These tangible metrics alone are hard to overcome.
Intangibles:
Pocket presence: non existent
Leadership: I’m assuming this one is above average.
Players can overcome weak metrics but the odds are not in your favor. So assuming Clawson saw “something” in Griffis and wanted to give him a chance, he should have been hedging his bet since the odds are against Griffis. Apparently he did not…not a good look for making the kind of money he is making.
