MBB Game 3: Utah Utes - Thursday 9 pm - Charleston Classic Quarter-Final ESPNU

This is how college basketball is now. If you don't get OOC wins against P5 schools or play in the #1 conference, you're screwed. Season is over unless we win the ACCT
What's the Mt West's formula? They always seem to play an ok but not great OCC and get 5-6 teams every year. Last year was the 1st time one of them actual did something in the tourney too.

The sequence that sticks out in my mind is when we had the ball up 12 early in the second half. We missed the 3 and then gave up a 4 point play on the other end. I watched that 4 point play a few times and I saw no contact at all.

I think Forbes has this season and probably next to get an NCAA bid unless this year ends up being a disaster. Tonight sucked and hurts for sure but lot of 🏀 left.

Mediocre ACC and losses to Utah and UGA already as good chances for tourney resume. The season is already over.
This is what pisses me off the most about the current state of college basketball. With the reliance on KenPom, NET, etc. feels like our season is already over. Few remaining opportunities to boost our resume but endless opportunities for "bad" losses. I guess it's possible we could go 15-5 in the ACC, beat Florida in the SEC challenge and not get upset by any lower ranked team for the rest of the season but that seems....improbable. Someone please explain to me how we make the NCAA tournament without doing that (or winning the ACC tournament). It just sucks to feel like the guys are playing out the string in November.
And yes, I'm ready some negative feedback for this post.

Can't blame this on Forbes. We have no true bigs available against their inside game. If we have Marsh and/or Efton makes a big difference. Carr is good but geez totally outmanned inside. Utah is tough and we held our own

College bball is not our fathers' game.... and it sucks that it's not.

At this point in our "program" you just have to rotate coaches until someone can get it done. If you can't make it work in three years, next up. Look at the shit schools with good teams in the top 25...it is just not that hard to be mediocre.

Bullshit, we can blame Forbes for never having us looking prepared to face a zone.

Um, it’s Forbes’ roster and we’re in year 4. If we have no true bigs, that’s on him.

Are we really using Efton as an excuse?

Don’t lose to other teams competing for the same spots you are lol it’s not a complicated formula. Wake makes the tourney if they go 15-5 finish top 4 in the Acc and avoid losses to teams in the bottom 100-125 in the country

Brutal loss, and you could see it coming. Just horrendous half court defense. No other way to say it. So many open looks with VERY little effort from Utah. Really basic shit. Marsh is no defensive stalwart, but Keller was awful, and I don't think his offensive flashes offset what a good hard Marsh foul might have done to the game. That's another thing-- all our fouls were vaginal in nature. Not that they were ticky tack (some were), but foul a man if you're going to foul him.

Cam disappeared completely in the second half. He was Ginger Jordan in the first half, and me in the second half. Confounding.

Three games in and there is room to make noise in league play, but that seems contingent on a transfer and Monsanto. Otherwise, NIT is the best we can hope for. Sucks for the guys, sucks for Forbes.

I expected to lose this game, but Wake being Wake, we lost it in the most Wake way possible. I want to throw up.

No, you’re exactly right. It isn’t even Thanksgiving and the season is already over. We are stuck in a cycle that I’m not sure we will ever find a way out of. Not good enough to matter, but not bad enough to ignore entirely. I am as disheartened as I have been in a long time.
