This isn't a terrible tenure, but if you only get to 6-6 in Year 5, you're probably not getting a big SEC job, especially since you already fizzled out at Ole Miss after Eli Manning went pro. Cut only went 24-17 with Manning starting for three years.

Cut wasn't a typical hire- older coach who had been a HC and an OC in the SEC before and had fizzled out but clearly a proven OC and QB whisperer. He was the perfect fit for Duke at the perfect time in his career. IIRC, he was offered the Tennessee HC job atleast twice during his Duke tenure.
 
never really thought about it much, but I would have guessed the ratio of head coach to all other staff members at a school like TAMU would tip further toward all other staff members than 11:7

There are a lot more people that want to coach college football then there are positions. So, outside of the coordinators, football programs can pay their staff very little and find an infinite number of willing candidates. Plus, that's just the salaries for coaching or admin-ing for the football program. Assistants do pretty well getting money from camps and clinics.
 
Elko made $130k in his last season as DC at Bowling Green - A 5,285% increase in base salary over 10 yrs ain't too shabby

Fuck Elko. I’m on board for Dave Clawson. Ten times the man. Loves Wake Forest and so do I. He will adjust to the new environment. I detest NIL and the portal, but is what it is. We are who we are and there is no one I would rather have taking us forward. Fuck some off you off base dreamers.
 
Would guess that $7 million for the non-HC football staff is more than just about any school in the nation. If not, most definitely top 5.

Ain’t it the truth, at least Clawson looks like he could get out and hand a little bit in conditioning drills. I used to think the same thing about Ralph Friedgen at Maryland, the fat coach Kansas used to have and Charlie Weiss. If I was a player I’d be like “I’m 6 percent body fat and you’re 160 percent body fat and you’re yelling at me about conditioning???”
 
Why did AtM only offer $11.5M? Just offer any amount. It’s not like they’ll win anything.

They’re the Jets of the NCAA.
