@Kory (or anyone really) ever mess around with the Dao/Ram Dass?

Heard something this past week that resonated with me quite powerfully. I’m really really terrible at meditation but it has been kicking around my brain ever since.
First I heard of him was on that Jon Hopkins track

not really a teacher guy, and esp. suspicious of Western teachers tbh

but if you're just looking for a non-religious entry into the act (or non-act) of meditation then the basic Headspace/Calm apps are fine -- i have a student sub to headspace

but if you don't want to pay and feel confident enough there are free breathing apps that give you something to focus the breath on

if you want a Western Buddhist entry into the cultural practice of meditation and teachings and courses etc. then Tricycle is probably the move

or just buy a Thich Nanh Hanh book

I can’t do breath based meditation, unfortunately, creates too much anxiety for me. I have a similar challenge with yoga. More to dig in there with a therapist I’m sure. But thanks for this, I guess I’m mostly interested since you have familiarity with Buddhism if you’d also dabbled in the Dao (and not Ram Dass specifically, he just seems to be a common entry point for people).

Which book do you recommend

OK, I did a hang clean at 185. I even took a video, but you don't get to see it because I look fucking ridiculous.

Today's workout was 5 rounds of:
8 power cleans (95#)
12 box jumps
8 power cleans (95#)
12 box jumps
rest 1 minute

So I already had the bar set up for cleans and decided to give it a whirl.

Long story short... Your move, bro.

I was in DC for a conference a couple years ago and got lunch with an old high school friend who left her job working at the World Bank to start doing breathwork classes.

in case you want her contact information

i've only read the miracle of mindfulness - it was fine

i don't know why you'd even do western buddhism when the Dhammapada is a better entry point but some people like the mysticism and familiar stuff i guess

My workout tomorrow will be 1/3/5/7/5/3/1 powercleans with 2/6/10/14/10/6/2 box jumpovers. But I'll be cleaning 185. Y'all are cute, though.
