2023 Carolina Panthers thread - HOF Julius Peppers

I mean do we want the patriots to get it? I think we are better off having the bears waste our pick at 1. But also fuck the bears

I hate the Pats but we’re better off if an AFC team gets the #1 pick.

Lol, i was a Stroud hater but the dude is having one of the best rookie QB seasons ever.

I wish I could hate as hard as you
Eh, every mediocre QB performance now becomes one of the best ever because of how the game has changed in recent years. Historical context is useless and just serves to artificially drive expectations. I will say congratulations to CJ Stroud that he has not been converted to Wide Receiver, converted to Punter, or run over by a dump truck while drunk on the side of the road, all of which already makes him the greatest NFL QB in tOSU's 100+ year football history.

Nice to see Bryce get a win yesterday, and the WRs finally helping him a little at the end. The Panthers are going to be stuck with him for a few years either way, so hopefully he gets some confidence and they can find a coach who can design an offense around his strengths to get some wins. It's really crazy how Chark can look like complete ass all year and then pull off that catch in the rain.

Bryce was great yesterday. That final drive was legit. He HAS to find his deep ball this offseason. Our scoring condition can not be 15 play, 9:00 minute drives that end in a 3rd and 4 in the redzone. You HAVE to have a deep ball to be successful in the NFL.

But his short to mid stuff was spot on yesterday. At least somewhat encouraging to see.

so what young QBs do you think are good and what are your thoughts on Caleb Williams and Drake Maye?

The thing is, he doesn't even have to be able to complete the deep ball. He just needs to be able to throw the deep ball in the general vicinity and let the defense and officials complete it for him. And those calls make actual subsequent completions easier because it backs the defense off. But to get the calls he at least needs to attempt the deep throws.

I'm sure someone has done this, but I would love to know what percentage of NFL TD drives contain a PI call along the way.

yeah I mean a couple of weeks ago all other NFC South teams were in the playoff hunt with 5 victories or less. Not that far off.

with a top 5 defense - would the panthers be in the playoffs with even a middle of the league offense?
middle of the league Offense would be 20.9 PPG i think. That would leave the panthers 5-9. So...not really, but in the hunt for the division.

obviously that's not how things work,,,games play out differently etc, but as a thought exercise

The Panthers had a .500 team to end last season. Just that squad would be competing for the division.

A lot of points allowed are due to turnovers and 3 and outs.

that's why i am saying it plays out differently.
Also...do other teams play differently on offense if the Panthers have a mid-level offense...thus taking the Panthers D to outside the Top 5.

You can do the what ifs all day

Well in all likelihood if the Panthers had a middle of the league offense their defense would be even better due to less time on the field etc.

i dunno - bryce has thrown 3 or 4 (maybe more?) pick 6s and bad fumbles that would come off the board as well

sure... but they may also not be a top 5 Defense. easy to be top 5 in yards allowed when your offense keeps leaving opposing team with 40 yard fields. From a D-DVOA standpoint CAR is ranked 27th ish

don't get me wrong...their defense is ok...i just think it's tough to play out that what-if game
