Justin Gray ('06) Named Head Coach at Coastal Carolina

WCU is in the same conference with ETSU and Wofford and Forbes and Mike Young jumped to the ACC. Any reason J Gray would need to stop at another mid major before getting a higher level job? I know Forbes had a ton of experience as an assistant at the high major level but lots of good coaches have been hired out of the SoCon

It only takes one school to make an offer, but I'd think he'll need to sustain for a bit to make a jump that big.

Mark Prosser jumped from WC to Winthrop. He left WC with nothing and Gray has done a good job trying to recover. Anyways, I imagine Prosser got paid more to go from WC to Winthrop. That may be the path that Gray takes.

JGray is 16-2. Prosser went 19-12 in his best season at WCU. If JGray makes their first NCAAT since 1996, WCU might find more money to keep him from taking a job like Winthrop.

Sounds great but you might be surprised at some of the money being offered.

WCU isn’t gonna pay enough to compete with even a Winthrop and as a coach just use it as a platform to get to a spot that is higher up, better pay, and a spot where coaches use it as a launching spot to a major conference

My wife’s family used to have a place in Horseshoe, so we spent a lot of time in Mills River and Hendersonville. Really miss that area.

I'm somewhat new to western NC. What do you love about it? It seems very rural but beautiful. Are you an outdoor enthusiast? I'm all ears to learn about new stuff out this way.
I know this wasn't directed at me but still wanted to jump in-- I love the mountains because I'm a nature type guy and love the peace, calm and the views out there. If I'm ever living permanently in the mountains, I think I've made it in life. I don't know where in WNC specifically you are but if you aren't tucked all the way back in the smokies I'd absolutely check out Linville Falls and in general the whole Linville Gorge area. Damn pretty stuff.

How much money does J.Gray make compared to a wofford/ETSU or mid major job?

According to OpenPayrolls, in 2022 JGray made a little more than Shay made at ETSU ($250K) and more than Prosser made at Winthrop ($215K). For what it’s worth.
