Justin Gray ('06) Named Head Coach at Coastal Carolina

At 16-14 going into the season finale against VMI, WCU is guaranteed to finish .500. This would be the 7th time WCU has gone .500 or better since winning the SoCon in 1996.

VMI lost almost everyone when Dan Earl left to take the Chattanooga job (last year VMI was #170 and were as high as 142 before Jake Stephens got hurt). They had one returning player with any game (Sean Conway) and he got hurt. Heading into last night's game, VMI was 1-15 in the SOCON and #355 in the nation, and four of their last five losses were by 20+. Even so, last night, VMI upset Wofford in OT 87-83. A freshman scored every point for VMI. WCU will beat VMI on Saturday, and Justin Gray will secure an above .500 finish.

it would be a huge upset if anyone other than Sanford, Furman, or UNC-G we’re to win the SoCin Tournament and autobid.

Speaking from experience in that building when Davidson was still in the SoCon, weird shit happens with Western Carolina when they play there. Consistently turns them into the best version of themselves, and they bring a ton of loud mountain people. And the Civic Center can get deafening with that low ceiling. It is a great venue for basketball.

Western loses 83-80
Bummer. But nice season for JGray

Heartbreaking loss for them but the future seems bright.

Line is 6.

Charlotte is coached by a Tony Bennett disciple. Will be low scoring. For the non-NCAAT post-season, it's all about finding out who is motivated to play (e.g., Clemson and Rutgers thought they were NCAAT bound and mailed in their NIT appearance). WCU will be motivated, don't know about Charlotte (it's not like the expected an NCAAT bid). Would lean to WCU.

WCU is 5-0 with a win today over North Alabama. They have three straight road games at Tennessee Tech, Gardner-Webb, and High Point. They're highest ranked SoCon team in Kenpom at #128.

Good for Justin. He was in that dead end basketball operations gig at Wake. I’m glad he’s making his own path. Wish this had been Chills path.
