Official Dayton Game Thread

Bad decision by TC with 34 secs left. Should have driven and dished rather than chuck up a 3. Try to drive and get the ball to Chase. Wonder why he didn't get more chances? Good defense by Dayton or poor sets by WF? We just get killed on the boards by every team. From that stand point it is going to be a long year. Good effort

Offense was not good in the last minute or so. Probably result of a young team that has not been in many (or really any) close games where they have to close it out.

i fucking hate jeff [Redacted]. in the offseason, i forgot how much the sight of him makes me want to punch a hole in the wall.

Give it a rest. There is nothing more annoying than somebody who continuously bashes our coaches when we are overachieving based on our talent level.

I still think we have some serious talent on the team and that the "lack of talent" moniker many are choosing really isn't all that apt. We lack talent in the post, but our guards and swing players are actually quite good, IMO.

Chennault made some bad decisions. We isolated in the final minute and he opted to shoot the long two rather than drive and dish, which is what I assume the play call was.

Travis, CJ and Chase are good. Tony has shown flashes as well. I agree with you that we have some good talent on the team, but there is a SERIOUS deficiency inside, and that really killed us tonight.

Lack of inside presence is just a killer. Carson is useless in the paint on offense.

Chennault is physical and played well tonight, but he just doesn't have PG skills. Harris needs to have the ball in his hands for those critical possessions and when the clock is running down.

Spot on. I kept thinking Harris needed the ball more often on important possessions and with the shot clock running down.

That said on the biggest possession of the game we got the ball to our best player and he made a mistake. It happens. Looking forward to watching the next two.

T/F Devin Thomas is our most important recruit next year?

If we had a bruiser to play with Carson, we'd have a decent team.

Our SGs need to play some wing D.

The motion was good, but we are so weak inside.

Too bad Tabb is an idiot or we could have NIT type team. I'm actually not that upset since we actually played pretty well all night. I have a more positive outlook on the program right now than any time in past year. Let's get a win again ASU or Fairfield tomorrow.

Oh, I agree that the lack of any decent inside players hurt us tonight. That Kavanaugh dude isn't that good, but looked like a world beater against us. Massive problem going forward.

Our talent is still good enough in other positions to compete on a consistent basis, however, IMO.

We have no front court to speak of.

How can you disagree that we're short on talent?

Very disappointed CJ didn't step up on one of the final 2 possessions.

CJ looked lost the last 10mins of the game so it didn't surprise me that he wasn't the go-to guy at the end. Should of set up a play for Fischer.

Ty has ANOTHER chance to really help the team. Will be interesting to see what happens after he comes back. He does block shots. I agree I would have put the ball in CJ's hands, buy TC had had a good game. Just didn't think team ball at the end. Hopefully, they'll learn and grow, I assume we play at 5:00 tomorrow

I certainly don't think we are any less talented than Dayton based on what I saw today.

I think this is correct, but the "lack of talent" moniker still affects us in certain roles. In particular, end games are going to be hard for us. It's something we have to get around, and I think we can, but when the disparity between our 1/2 and 3/4/5 scorers is so generous, I don't think we can simply run plays for our best players. We don't just need a third scorer, we need a "different" scorer. We need a big presence. I'm fairly confident that once we get one, with a similar talent spread as we have now, we'll be ok.

Eh, compete, but fade down the stretch. Against ACC big men, this team is going to get mauled. I'm worried there won't be enough players to finish the game because of foul trouble some games later on in the year.

There will be a lot of games like tonight, honestly. Team is going to live and die with the jumpshot and the dribble-drive, but teams with any semblance of an inside presence will be able to take advantage of that, especially late in games.

Unless we play teams like 2006 Villanova, 2004 St. Joe's or Temple 30 times this year, there will be a ton of frustrating mismatches.

Our guard talent level is good, not great. I wish we could give Tony, CJ, and Chase an extra half-step of quickness each.

I agree that we the "lack of talent moniker" can still apply, especially when 2/3-5 guys that start for us aren't good at all. That's still 40-60% of the team.
