Official Dayton Game Thread

I'm still confused how you can be upset about the effort our guys gave tonight against a superior team.

pretty sure a lot of people haven't come to terms with the fact that teams like dayton, and some considerably worse, are superior to our squad.

i just hope we play BC 2x this season.

Never said they had superior talent. Said they were a superior team.

Errrr...

Care to explain? Or are you suggesting that they were better prepared by their coaching staff to play?

Just not sure what you are getting at here, please enlighten me. Cheers.

They're more experienced (started three juniors and two seniors), returned most of their minutes from last year's team minus Chris Wright, have a solid defense and are able to get rebounds on offense based on their system and tenacity of their inside players (which is primarily based on the fact that post players improve a TON with experience on both ends of the floor, plus having the benefit of three years of college-level weight training), and did I mention that they have a lot of experience?

Bottom line is that Dayton won because they've been here before and for the most part (minus Dillard, a transfer from Southern Illinois) have been playing together for the better part of three years.

Our inexperience down in crunch time hurt us, no doubt about it, just not sure that it means we have an inferior team. Maybe we just have different definitions of that term. :noidea:

Dayton will win more games this year, probably by 8-10. They are a better team, there's no question about that. If you want to disagree that's fine but no offense you're wrong.

Can't believe there would be any indignation over the loss. Unlike last season, the program looks like it's going to be okay.

This team is poorly built and lacking in talent and experience, but they play hard and look a lot smarter than they did last season.

Not to derail the "Worst Poster" contest, but....

2011-12 OVERALL RANKINGS

POINTS PER GAME
81.3 38th OVERALL

REBOUNDS PER GAME
32.0 291st OVERALL

ASSISTS PER GAME
15.3 67th OVERALL

FIELD GOAL PCT
.480 63rd OVERALL

We really need someone to step up. Hopefully Ty can give us some help on the boards. We are playing really well in all other areas. I think this is an NCAA-T team with Tony Woods, or most any strong big man. That is all we are lacking. TC is getting more comfortable, despite a bad decision late. He'll learn. He's growing a lot pretty fast.

Good points. TC a scoring point guard has been impressive.

Ty Walker
Desrosiers
Dan Green

Those 3 give us ANYTHING in the post and we are a decent team this year.

Bzzz's teams numbers for rebounding at Col and WFU:

2006/7 (year before he got to Col): Colorado: ranked 86 in rebounding
2007/8 (first year @ Col): 322
2008/9: 341
2009/10: 341
2010/11 (first year @ WFU): 275 (Col): 126

What is that phrase?? Once is chance, twice is coincidence and three times is a pattern?

although i noticed this trend and saw us get killed last night on the boards, i just don't see anyone on this team that can change the rebounding disparity. unless Ty comes in a new person/player it has no chance of getting any better...we just have to deal with it for another season, maybe 2.

The fact that he hasn't had a good rebounding team since starting at AF does concern me.

There is no way we will ever be a good tourney team if we are getting killed on the boards.

I want to love TC. I do. He does some great things out there. Then he will do something so out of control at the most inopportune time that just murders us.

Let me love you TC!!!

I understand, but TC doesn't have a full season under his belt in college. He's coming along better than I thought. He's also got an attitude, too. In good, Chill, kind of way. Not comparing the two, but he's definitely a leader who will never back down from anyone. And he's only going to improve everything else. I am VERY happy with him and AF as our PG's for the next few years.

Believe it or not, and I'd prefer not to:

Carson actually grabs more rebounds per 40 minutes than Tony and fouls less. It's a small sample size, I know, but we're REALLY overrating Tony. He plays 15 minutes per game on a bad team. It's almost like the only thing that we can remember is the Texas game...
