Our next BIG GAME against High Point

This is a huge game at HPU and the gym is going to be rocking. A complete trap game for us if we are not ready. HPU may not have a lot of size, but they are pretty athletic.

To add on top of the game itself, HPU is also bringing Tubby Smith back to campus for this game to honor him at halftime. He is a grad and easily their most famous one (though until someone told me, I had no idea).

God I hope we can pull this off but I certainly don't expect it.

There is a lot of overlap between the big money donors (corporate and family) at Wake and HPU. So if Nido and rich folks are doing anything shady, I suspect Dr. Hatch is as well.

For the record, I never said they were doing anything shady. They are utilizing a great deal of our community's charitable dollars to build up that school, which concerns me as a High Point resident since we have many, many causes that could use those dollars (in my opinion, in better ways). However, I have a vested interest in the success of High Point University, so I am reluctantly rooting for them. Heck, the city itself is practically banking on their success. My concern is sustainability given the school's incredibly small endowment of just $30-40 million.

This thread has been a revelation to me. Born and raised in NC and have never met a High Point University grad in my entire life. Was barely aware there was a High Point University. And now I find out that it's like a 5-star resort college for the kids of uber-rich businessmen and Saudi sheiks. I'll be damned.

Yea, apparently HPU is like the Manchester City of North Carolina colleges.

Holy crap. That does seem like cause of concern.

The changes to the campus are impressive. Unlike the tract of land that Wake had to work with, HPU is a little landlocked, as I recall. Nonetheless, they have created a very pleasant atmosphere. I have had four students in the last 3 years that went to HPU and it was perfect for them. The right majors, the right academic rigor, the right support. I think the furniture business and banking community are invested there. It is a close-knit student body; we may indeed have trouble in their gym tonite. Go Deacs!

They accept 68% of applicants and 89% (!) of early action applicants. Yikes.

HPU is growing at such a rate that if they keep it up, High Point will be known as a University town in a decade or so, no joke.

I think your numbers are a year old . The latest was 61% or so with 1100 SAT. Remember they have more students in their freshman class than was in the whole school a few years ago. Nibo has only been around for like 6 years. High Point is wise to invest in HPU. They will have growing pains but as an interested parent, I like how they do things. Good people based on my experience.

Ordinarily growing that quickly involves fairly lax admissions standards. Not trying to be a dick...just my perspective.

Listen they have grown at a tremendous rate while increasing their academic standards in regards to admissions. Whoever, neg repped me my numbers for 2011 are correct as per their website so there.

Their website also lists them as the #3 ranked school in the US News and World Report.

I'd take everything on there with a grain of salt.

That is for regional colleges in the south.

FWIW a quick Google search indicated that the national average for SAT scores in 2011 was 1011. High Point's SAT range is 1010-1190. Elon, for example, has a range of 1147-1307. I wish the school the best of luck but it's got quite a ways to go to be on par with even some of the lesser schools in NC.

How bad has our program fallen when people are nervous about playing a High Point team with 5 losses???? Trap game...Really?

If this is a "big" game something is really wrong..

There is a concerted effort among the buzzin crowd to overstate the quality of our opponents to make the losses look less severe and the wins worth more.

If we lose this game Bzz should find his office locked and his shit in boxes out on the sidewalk tomorrow morning.
