Chris Paul

Sure, I agree with your/MC's point about cap room and Gilbert's insane rambling about savings, but it's also about winning basketball games, especially before Kobe loses a step.

Also, let's not forget that Paul is injury prone, as well. The crazy thing is that both Gasol and Odom made it through all 82 games last year.

Lamar missed a ton of games his 3rd - 6th season (40 games one season, 20 games two others)

He gets injured less now because he's a 6th man and only tries half the time.

Dan Gilbert's email to Stern:

Commissioner,

It would be a travesty to allow the Lakers to acquire Chris Paul in the apparent trade being discussed.
...
Dan G.

Again with the comic sans? Someone really needs to explain this to him.

I completely disagree with everything in that statement. I'm sorry.

You disagree that he disappears every other game? I thought this was generally accepted as fact. Very few players in the NBA bounce around from shooting 20 times per game to 6 times per game as much as Lamar.

Not playing well doesn't equal not trying hard

+1

I don't have the energy to prove it, but Lamar has developed a pretty good reputation as a teammate, role player, and a guy who will do what is necessary to win basketball games.

Are we really arguing over whether Lamar Odom leaves it all out on the court every time he plays?

When you google "Lamar Odom doesn't try hard" you get tons and tons of hits. I just tried alot of other players and didn't get any.

Maybe because I live in LA I'm more exposed to the millions of people frustrated with Lamar's effort. Or maybe its just recent from him only shooting 5 times in the lakers last game of the season. Or maybe because his entire disposition in every postgame interview is that of no emotion.

So basically, the Lakers can't make trades for star players if the said players they seek to acquire come from less profitable franchises?? It doesn't even make sense. All this does is bring the top tier teams DOWN to even out the playing field. This watering down, socialistic crap is going to kill the league.

Chris has every right to be furious. This puts him in a very uncomfortable situation for a whole season if he is stuck in NO and could be a career killer. The Hornets have every right to be furious because they had worked a remarkably good trade that would have kept them competitive. Honestly, the Lakers AND the Hornets improved their teams with this trade. David Stern looks like a complete tool and the fallout from this isn't going to be pretty.

Yes, well said.

I mean I hate to say it but CP3 should sit out and file a lawsuit. If the Heat can pull that crap last year, why can't he go to the Lakers?

Why do you keep talking about the Bobcats? Chris Paul doesn't want to play in Charlotte any more than he wants to play in New Orleans. He wants to play for big bucks, in a big city, with a good team...of his choosing. And he's like everyone else with significant means in this country today.....he wants what he wants, and to hell with how it affects everyone else. At the end of the day, there isn't a heckuva lot of difference between what Paul is trying to do and what Lebron did last year. As a matter of fact, if Paul had played his two years for Duke or UNC instead of Wake Forest, the same people on this board who worship him would despise him, ala J J Redick.

Wow, the most truthful post i have ever read on this board.

Not really. The sentiments towards Carmelo are much less hateful than towards LeBron, and Chris is handling the situation even better than Carmelo.

This describes every human in the world at their core.

the difference is that they were all free agents. this would be acquisition by trade.

My feeling is that CP3 wants to WIN. All this "big market" talk is silly. He's carried a mediocre team for years. In last year's series against the Lakers his numbers were nearly inhuman and they still lost.

The difference is most of us don't act in terms of simply selfish desire because we understand the consequences of those actions.

Stern apparently was not thinking in terms of consequences, or at least not clearly.

Agreed. If Charlotte were a good team then I have no doubt that he would want to come here to be closer to home and have a great shot at winning.

If you're arguing the opposite side then you haven't seen Lamar play. He is a very frustrating player. In addition to disappearing, it is almost a guarantee that he will do everything in his power to avoid the ball at the end of the game if the score is close. His signature move is dishing wide open threes with the game on the line.
