Chris Paul

At the end of Tim's first contract the push was to get him McGrady and Hill to Orlando to form the mega team. The experts here thought the Spurs could never put a team around him that would win again and he should leave to chase championships.

I've never heard Tim say 'The Spurs must do this for me'.

The point of this is that it's pretty clear that Tim is not a 'me first' kind of guy or even if he is, he is not dumb enough to do it in the press.

If anything, Tim is the anti CP3-LeBron-Mello of our day.

IMO when Tim finally retires, his NBA legacy will be much greater than while he played, partially because he will have no negative baggage.

Chris Paul v. David Stern - taking it to a judge as is now being reported/rumored - he's suing the league unless Stern wises up real soon.

Anybody want to represent CP3 in court?

Also, bad trade for the Lakers. Bynum will get hurt and then they are royally screwed.

Yea I have the feeling this will get overturned before the weekend is over

So does David Stern have to prove that this move was for "basketball reasons"? What exactly can the court rule on here?

So basically, the Lakers can't make trades for star players if the said players they seek to acquire come from less profitable franchises?? It doesn't even make sense. All this does is bring the top tier teams DOWN to even out the playing field. This watering down, socialistic crap is going to kill the league.

The NBA has been a one way freight train to major market consolidation for years. So I'm not sure what you are even talking about.

Whats going to kill the league is the lack of any semblance of competitive balance. In the NFL there are only one or two disinterested markets, unlike the NBA where there are 25. Having the Lakers and Heat in the finals for the next ten years may give TV ratings a slight bump, but its at the expense of revenue to every other team in the league.

CP3 is pissed. Can't believe Lebron and Co. could go to Miami but he can't go to LA.

CP3 not going to live in Lebron's big ego shadow anymore. Dates all the way back to the McDonald's All American game when Lebron selfishly waved off CP3 multiple times on the inbounds play so Lebron could bring the ball up the court and show off his point guard skills for scouts. Paul looked lost like "wtf...I am the point guard and a damn good one." That did happen.

Good for CP3.

There is a big difference. LeBron and Co. went to Miami in the FA market.

Paul is being traded by an organization that is being run by the NBA to the team with the most history in the NBA (shut up Boston). It is certainly a touchy subject and I see both sides.

If that's why he's pissed, then he's stupid. Lebron, et al were free agents and didn't come from a team owned by the league.

Not saying I agree with it (I don't care), but its apples and oranges.

You realize that Lebron and Chris are great friends, right?

Yes, but that isn't the point. The reason to compare to the Miami situation is that this deal looks to have been blocked because people didn't want the Lakers to build a super power like we have in south beach. Most everyone who has analyzed the trade has said the Hornets were the biggest winners.

You offer that same trade but put X team in for the Lakers and it goes through.

I dont think he ever has to play another game as a Hornet. Sit out the season and go to the Lakers or the Knicks next year.

Not anymore bro. You need to pick a side. Miami or LA......I would like to build up the Mavs and Celtics too, so we can have a four team race split along geographic boundaries.

Yes, Hornets were the big winner. However, at best, this turns them from a crappy team to a playoff contender.

However, the upside for the Lakers was the greatest. While they took the most risk and got the least out of the trade, if they were then able to get Howard, they would be able to easily do what the Heat did by getting veterans simply looking to win to fill the remaining spots. This would then have been the catalyst for another super power.

This is what the owners feared.

Agreed. But as you pointed out, this isn't fantasy basketball. You can't block a fair trade because you don't like it. It really is amazing that this happened.
