The Jeff [Redacted] Show

Because he is a liar?

http://gazetteafasports.freedomblog...d]-learned-something-from-afa-departure/5309/

Thank you for posting something that I had only read 20 times. It has made my Friday morning substantially better. ;)

You're welcome! Seemed like you forgot, so I figured I would give you a friendly reminder.

BESTIES!

There were a couple of good questions that addressed a few concerns expressed on this board in a non-confrontational way, which allowed for some in-depth answers.

Now, maybe he was completely blowing smoke, and I think it would have been totally legit to ask him to put the rebounding philosophy in the context of his Colorado and Air Force teams, but it came across as less defensive than I have heard him in the past, and his answers certainly weren't delivered in a tone which indicated that he was passing blame. And though it wouldn't have been justified, asking him to explain the Air Force and Colorado rebounding numbers would have definitely come across as defensive and probably clouded his point, which everyone would have picked up on instead of the meat of his argument.

The answers were alright. He talked about offensive rebounding almost as an extension of the offense, which, though understandable, isn't really what I wanted to hear and could point to the reason that, though he says he stresses it, it isn't getting across.

Him going on about Chase was pretty classic. Top 5 Bz interview moment for sure. I was dying.

Which is why I prefaced the question with being an x and o junky and former coach(I know, I know jr. high level but still you think about how to coach better when you're involved in it,) so it wouldn't sound like I was attacking him. Plus, everyone complains about him mentioning AFA and Colorado, so I thought I'd help not get involved in it.

I understand your point. I just would like to see him explain why his offensive rebounding at Air Force and Colorado were significantly worse than the teams before him and after him.

What else could it be besides his scheme?

Apparently we're 9th in the ACC! That's almost near the middle! Bzz the fuck In!

9. Wake Forest: Deacs coach Jeff [Redacted] thought his team took a step in the right direction when C.J. Harris buried a game-winner to upset Nebraska on the road Nov. 20. Then three days later, Wake fell behind by as many as 23 points and lost to Richmond at home. It’s going to be that sort of year in Winston-Salem.

No offense to the Gazette or anything, but this just strikes me as vindictive, homer nonsense. 50/50, when it comes down to Air Force and Colorado means that you're gone. That his players couldn't see this coming is somewhat unbelievable. If you can't glean that as a reporter than you deserve to be disappointed. Most coaches offer unsatisfactory comments/notice, from a fan's perspective, when they leave town for greener pastures. Most newspapers respond in this way from what I've seen (a.k.a. "The Dan Gilbert").

Be Bzz'out, but be Bzz'out responsibly...

I'm not sure he's throwing his players under the bus, either. He's acknowledging that something isn't working and that they're practicing it. We'll see if they get better.

As for Chase, he wasn't rotating and I think it's fair for Bzz to call him out on that. Plays weren't being called for him, but it's literally his only job to move without the ball. Within five minutes, he was doing a far better job at this and ended up creating some offense for himself down the stretch.

He was throwing the players under the bus last year, but it seemed as though it was more of a botched motivational tactic (yeah, I know, our coach is a fool), than anything as nefarious as you're making it out to be.

I'm on the fence, as well, leaning towards Bzz'out, but I'd rather craft judgments based on what I see on the floor as opposed to an article from a newspaper even less reliable than the Winston-Salem Journal....

So you're starting to notice the trend?

LEAVE MY BROTHERS ALONE!!!!!!!!!!

The reality is teams that paly Princeton style offense will always be bad offensive rebounding teams. It's just that simple.

That's definitely a trend and a good general rule, but with the right personnel a team can be above average on the offensive glass.

Georgetown is 87th, well above average. His Gtown teams have often been slightly above average offensive rebounders all but one year, and were actually 8th in 2007. It lends credence to the belief athletes with a specific skill set (i.e. offensive rebounding) can overcome the system. Thompson's Princeton teams looked a lot like our coach's teams by comparison.

Bo Ryan's teams generally aren't great on the offensive glass, but he's had a year at 56th. 159th to this point this year.

Bill Camody's resume at Northwestern is very similar to [Redacted]'s teams on the offensive glass. He runs the purest form of the Princeton O of those mentioned, at the slowest pace as well.

Give me other examples and I'll look those up as well.

The interesting thing with our team is that we play a much faster pace than these programs. We run a sort of modified Princeton at a faster pace, only if the primary or secondary break isn't there. We do look to break first, which I like.

It's also a point that we play much faster than Bz's AF teams, who played at a very slow tempo. It shows that [Redacted] will adjust to his personnel to a great extent, which is why next year, which should be among the most athletic teams he's coached, is very intriguing. If we're not grabbing over 25%of offensive rebounds next year, still well below average but better than this year, we'll know it's something about [Redacted]'s teams.

Does Huggins not run a very similar motion offense at WVU while doing great on the offensive boards?

That's another great example.

His teams have been 5th, 2nd, 6th, and 13th 2009-this season, out of 345 teams in offensive rebounding percentage. His teams probably run a slightly less pure form of the Princeton, but not all that dissimilar from what we're doing this year, so it's another great example that the system, with the right players, doesn't preclude success on the offensive boards.

Huggins uses the post a lot in his offense and always has.

Another thing about our team is we are small and run the Princeton offense. The results are inevitable.
