Wake-Maryland Game Thread

It is a ridiculous statement to say we "missed" three players that have never once suited up for us.

I wish Daniel could take milkshakes intravenously while he sleeps. He would help on the boards. He tries, but he's too thin.

Any golden nuggets from Bz on the postgame tonight? Or does that only become a topic of convo when we lose in embarrassing fashion?

What I find interesting about Bzzz's post game is he doesn't sugar coat it. Most are satisfied with the effort but he still focuses on what we should have done better.

He does recognize good things players do but doesn't sound happy with 'some' good things happening.

Better than me, to be honest. I was pleased with the effort.

I was very pleased. I'm hesitant to say it, but this team is showing me something. The reason I'm hesitant is because I thought the same thing after the Virginia and Miami games last year, but this year I'm really hoping we can keep the momentum going this year.

Who is posting under TBR's name? :)

Huh? I have consistently set out that expectation.

[Redacted] will have a senior CJ and a junior McKie along with a solid class. The quesiton will be how well we will do post-CJ and, mainly, post-McKie.

Depends on who replaces them. Hopefully Travis stays two more years.

I don't think Travis will be leaving early. He's great, but his game is not next level just yet.

Props to the team for not folding down 16 at the half and making a game of it down the stretch. Baby steps.

If he makes a big step forward then maybe after next season, but certainly not after this one.

you know, i may be turning into a Buzz-inner!

the effort tonight is something that has been missing for a few seasons now. this team could have easily packed it in, like last year, but they fought back and had a legit chance to steal a W on the road. i am very impressed with the players, the teamwork and the coaching!

Welcome, sir. Welcome to the Land of Hope. Enjoy your stay.

It's amazing looking at the stats that we were even in this game.

It's the highest offensive rebounding percentage we've allowed all year, the third fewest turnovers we've forced, and the second highest free throw rate we've allowed. That's three of the four factors that we were abused on and yet the most important one, effective field goal percentage, was the second lowest of the year.

This was a hell of an effort by the guys IMO. How big are those two goaltended baskets that didn't get called looking now?

Went to the game, and when Maryland was hitting everything early it felt like last year. Even when we hit a couple of shots they went back up by 18, we thought - here comes the knock out blow. Last year's team would have started jacking 3 pointers and giving up run-out layups.

But I'll be damned if we didn't lock it down on defense and just chip away. Outside of Travis we shot 9% from 3 - and we STILL came back. Even with Ty dropping that easy dunk he had the paint on lock down - not sure Maryland got more than 2 or 3 open looks in the 2nd half. Really good stuff. Travis was a beast, just refused to quit and hit some huge shots, we did a great job running plays for him and getting him wide open 3 pointers. Even Chennault had some terrific finishes and played very good defense on Stoglin. Took such a bad set of events to lose that game - ice cold from deep, horrible foul calls on us and blatant no-calls on them, 2 obviously missed goal tending calls, Chase missing the front end of that 1-and-1. The two no-calls on the CJ drives and then Maryland got 2 shots for a hand check in the back court.

It was louder and the crowd was bigger than we were expecting for Maryland this time of year. Was fun listening to the crowd around me ask how we lost our good players but somehow got better...

We'll continue to struggle this year whenever Chase and CJ go cold from outside, but next year... Man, we could be legit good.
