Should We Hang CP3?

We already have too many numbers retired. We made a mistake years ago by not establishing the retire/honor, two-level system. It is too late to fix it for the ones already retired. But we must avoid compounding the error by retiring more numbers too easily.

In the case of CP, I would not retire his number. Jersey retirement is for accomplishments while at Wake ONLY. All of his NBA accomplishments and all the things he has done for the school since graduating have nothing to do with this decision. CP was a great player at Wake and may very well end up as the greatest point guard to ever play here. But, he was only here 2 years and had few concrete accomplishments, beyond his individual awards.

Personally I would be in favor of a rule requiring that a player play at Wake at least 3 years to have his number retired. Future great players who play 1 or 2 years before going pro could have their jerseys honored, in rare instances...

Why 3 years?

If you're going to make that type of rule then it should be that only players who have graduated can have their numbers retired.

Graduated ...
Better rule.

Still waiting for keeper to come up with yet another rule to explain why Howard's jersey shouldn't be retired according to his previous rules.

He majored in sociology.

Pretty sure he majored in religion. I believe he switched majors after 9/11.

His Wake profile says Sociology, but good chance it's wrong. Can't find anything on his web site about his major.

ETA: yep, looks like it was wrong.

I know you were waiting for someone to notice that your suggestion for coaches honored resulted in taking down Skip's banner, but apparently no one did.

No I didn't say take it down. Nor did I say take down retired jerseys. I'm just giving my opinion of who should be in the rafters. Just an exchange of ideas here.

Wake has a HOF as well for great representatives of the University.

Great personal accomplishments, minimal team accomplishments. 0-1 in the ACCT, did play in a 2nd because he was suspended.

Over powered by Jemeer Nelson of St. Joe's.

Taron Downey almost pulled out the WV game for us.

Illinois?

kaye took him completely out of his game in Cameron

I think it would be more correct to say we didn't know how good CP3 would become.

Has all this positive press gotten us better recruits?

I wouldnt. The large majority of people realized how great CP was. Many were comparing him to Isiah Thomas. Some were saying he could go down as one of the best point guards to ever play the game. There were only a few idiots who were saying he wasnt ready for the league and whining about how he needed to stay another year. I guess you were one of them.

amazing 5 page thread where everyone agrees to hang/retire it but keeper continues to bump it to the top
