NFL preseason thread

That. Is. Awesome. Leave it to the Jets to make the punt must watch football.

Honestly, NFL punts are pretty boring with the exception of a few returners. Little to no rush. Very few fakes. Excellent punters who can boom it or coffin corner it which is great, but not much variety in styles. This could be an interesting innovation. Put a playmaker in that spot and force teams to account for him which helps the coverage.

Haha, seriously. I can see it now. [Hansen]"We're going to go double box here and take you to New York, because the Jets are going to PUNT!"[Red Zone]

Really hope Cam Newton gets the Madden cover instead of Megatron. It's down to those 2.

Megatron deserves it more. He is clearly the best WR in the league.

Looks like the Falcons are getting Asante Samuel from the Eagles for a late round pick.

If it's seriously just one late-round pick, I'm gonna be pissed the Lions didn't offer more, cap issues aside.

A late round pick for a multiple Pro Bowler. And he's going to a team that will now have 3 top cornerbacks. Awesome job, Eagles.

As a Falcons fan and considering the Falcons don't pick until #55 this weekend, I'm ecstatic with this news. And a late round pick to boot. Nice.

Isnt this the exact same thing people were saying about the Eagles when they picked up Nnamdi, Dominique Rodgers Cromartie, and then had Asante??

Yep. So maybe that wasn't the real issue in Philly. And FWIW I completely agree with the reasoning that you need 3 good cornerbacks in the modern NFL.

There are lots of issues with Samuel - a big one was the contract and money he was due to be the 3rd corner - and he refused to take a paycut from the Iggles. Also, his skills are diminishing and he can only play as a cover corner - he isn't good in the slot and he almost refuses to play the run or even attempt to tackle. He is still a ball hawk and can cover WR, but he doesn't do anything else.

Also, no other teams were offering them anything else - word on the street was he was going to be released if they couldnt find a taker.

Asante can still play. That's all just spin from the Eagles because he was a malcontent, and you know how the Eagles treat malcontents. He was the best tackler on that entire defense for a span last year - Nnamde and Rodgers-Cromartie aren't exactly tearing it up in that area either. They decided to run a system that didn't let him do what he does best (or really anyone else on the team either). Asante just made his unhappiness with the situation a little bit more obvious.

You are in the minority - no tampa 2 defenses took a chance on him (even for a 7th round pick) because of his complete lack of desire to tackle or desire to cover over the middle. He is nowhere near $6 million a year right now. But, yes, he can still cover.

The Eagles don't usually get it wrong with their own guys. If they let a guy go, they're right most of the time.

Asante is notorious for being terrible against the run and tackling.

That's why it's so sad that people were talking about him being the best tackler on that defense last year.

DaDeacs - I realize he isn't a guy who's meant to play in the Tampa 2 scheme. But neither are their other 2 CB's.

They sure got it right with Dawkins. He only made 2 more pro bowls while they went through about 8 crap safeties.

P.S. You guys do know I'm an Eagles fan, right?
