Marvel's The Avengers (reviews/discussion)

Also, thoroughly enjoyed the movie. Didn't see Norton's Hulk but really enjoyed the Hulk/Banner in this one. Action scenes were great and probably will battle Batman for my favorite movie of the year.

I appreciate Batman and the Avengers series (including the accompanying ind. movies) for different reasons. I expect Batman to be dark as that tone was set very early, while all the Avengers movies have been lighter. Look forward to all the forthcoming Avenger associated movies.

Cage, Iron Fist, and Strange all are associated with the Avengers...they currently are a part of the Avengers B team in the comics. The Vision would be more of a regular character than those would, though.

As for the GOG, Adam Warlock is probably the most well known, but they are almost always involved when Thanos appears. Silver Surfer also is often involved when things go Cosmic as well. I'm also guessing they're planning to involve Death as part of the story, since they hinted at it in the teaser (Thanos smiles at Death's mention).

I would add Captain Marvel to the well known GoG list

In a weird coincidence (or not) the Guardians of the Galaxy are going to be featured on tomorrow morning's episode of Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes. So that percentage should go up to maybe a full 1%.

Very true. I'll stop the comparisons and just say that I prefer DC's approach.

I think you're giving DC undue credit, the direction and success of this current Batman series is all due to Nolan and his team. Just look at DC's other work lately: Jonah Hex, Green Lantern, Catwoman, and Superman Returns. I did like Watchmen though.

I don't think DC has the same kind of control that Marvel. Remember, Marvel has their own studio and the power of Disney behind them. It is still true, though, that the two companies approach story telling very differently, and that ultimately effects how these characters get translated to the screen. Nolan just happened to be more faithful to the character than other directors.

I saw it yesterday and loved it. I'd love to see a combined series with X-men, FF, Spider-man and The Avengers. Due o separate distro rights, I doubt it'll happen.

Talk about Epic...an entire Marvel crossover event on the big screen? That'd be insane, and close to impossible to pull off well.

— According to this handy
chart on Box Office Mojo’s Web site
, Iron Man, the Hulk, Thor, et al sold 25.6 million tickets over the weekend. Clearly the more expensive 3-D and Imax screenings may have contributed to its overall revenue;
according to the L.A. Times
, 52% of moviegoers opted to see “The Avengers” in 3-D. But that’s still an awful lot of tickets sold in three days.

Assuming only a small percentage of moviegoers saw the film twice, that's over 8% of the population of the US. I'm having a tough time wrapping my head around that figure. And hard to believe the majority saw it in 3D.

Interesting numbers Ph. I don't know about WS or any other cities but in Raleigh the theaters I looked at 3 out of the 4 theaters didn't even have it available in 2D. Sucks as I'd actually rather watch it in 2D but whatever.

Which theater did you go to? I saw it at North Hills.

To be honest with you Deadbolt I just made that stat up off the top of my head after looking at movies a little bit ago and after looking it up it appears i'm way off base. Looks like there were plenty of options in 2D. Whoops...

I actually saw it at the IMAX downtown last night so was obviously expecting 3D and all the bells and whistles. From now on I'll make sure to check my facts before I throw made up numbers around haha.
