BIG NEWS ON RECRUITING FRONT, boys!!!!

I can't believe that people really think Coach [Redacted] "denigrates his players to make himself look better".

Look if you don't like the way he comes across in the media, or the lack of success that he has had on the court so far then that is completely reasonable. There is no reason to make up stuff about the guy though. Just completely irrational. There are enough things to dislike about him without making up stories that are not true.

Really can't believe that people hear that story and think that:

a) we have players who came to Wake actually thinking steaks were meant to be eaten by hand, or
b) [Redacted]/premium posters on DS made this story up to make Buzz look good and denigrate the players

I heard that a couple players did try to eat the steaks with their hands...in a joking manner, trying to get a laugh. That version is far more plausible, to me at least.

I think this story has little to do with some of our players being "savages" and everything to do with our players being immature/childish.

The "joking" angle is literally the only story that is even slightly plausible. These kids aren't from the streets they know how to use silverware in a restaurant.

I'm not going to go as far as some here but an awful lot of his quotes are of the "poor me look at how hard my job is for xyz reason" variety.

Well like I said, they could have possibly just picked up some of the smaller pieces, or used their fingers to brush other stuff away.

That's fine, but can we even find the quote where he says anything about taking the players to an etiquette class? I am online a ton and do a bunch of research about Wake on a daily basis, and I read nothing about that.

Yep. http://gazetteafasports.freedomblogging.com/2010/04/11/hopefully-[Redacted]-learned-something-from-afa-departure/5309/

I don't think Bz has even mentioned etiquette classes to the press. I think that story came out from others in the AD, likely Wellman or big donors and drifted over to the boards. It may have emerged during Wellman's press week leading up to the UVa game.

Why are we worrying about recruiting.

Bzzz obviously gives worse head than K or Roy

We are doomed to lose

I am 99.9% sure that RepeatDeac is a high up in the Ath Dept. Dude is straight party line on everything.

This is the info on Wooden and his instructions on how to wear socks and why he taught it.

Q: Is it true that you used to instruct your players on how to put on their shoes and socks before each game or practice?

Wooden: Absolutely. I picked that up when I was teaching in high school. We had a lot of blisters, and I found out that a lot of the players didn't smooth out all the wrinkles around their heels and around their little toes, places where the blisters are apt to occur. Then I found out that they didn't lace their shoes properly and oftentimes they wore shoes that were a size too large.

With all the quick-stop turning, changes of direction, changes of pace on a hard floor you have in basketball, this would cause blisters. So, I thought it was very important that I'd check their shoe size and how they put their socks on. I hoped they would take a few extra seconds to smooth out the wrinkles around the heel and the toes and hold the sock up while they put their shoe on. I think it was important. And I know from the time I started in high school that we greatly reduced the number of blisters that we'd have, so I continued that throughout my coaching. I know a number of players laughed about it. They probably still laugh about it now. But I stuck to it. I think to some degree it helped team unity. I believed in that and I insisted on it.

Yeah, I refuse to believe anybody in today's world raised in America saw a steak and said, "fuck it, I'm just going to pick this bad boy up and gnaw on it."

No chance it happened that way. People don't just pick up steaks with their hands. It just doesn't happen.

There is no way this happened. I have shared many a meal with the team at ryans in the last few years and while they dont have the best manners, no one would be eating steaks with their hands.

Sweet talking waitresses at Texas roadhouse for a free drink by saying theyd tip more and then not tipping at all, yes... but not something like eating steak with hands.

reading this thread is giving me a craving for steak

definitely agree on the more likely scenario of some guys joking around about it

although it's pretty hysterical to imagine Carson Derosiers grabbing a ribeye announcing, "Me Carson, me want steak." followed by scavenging the meal

for the record i have no reason to believe it was carson involved in this, just picked a random player

Did Bunny Colvin teach the etiquette class?

When I was in law school they offered etiquette lessons for business dinners. I don't think it's a big deal for our players to take them. They're ambassadors of the university and more than that a coach's job is to help these guys grow into men. That's always been one of Grobe's virtues and part of the draw when recruiting is family atmosphere.

lolz

I bet Carson can do a hell of a raptor impression.

So is it improper for me to gnaw on a T-bone in my backyard, after I've eaten what parts I could get with a knife and fork? Cause I really enjoy that part of grilling out -- beer in one hand, T-bone in the other. :D

(Don't think I'd do it in a restaurant, though.)
