    11/10/75...40 years ago today

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYew9BybZYo Discovery Channel documentary from the 90s I remember watching as a kid on the wreck. Interesting theories, other background on the ship. Makes me miss the old Discovery Channel

NCAA considering freshmen ineligible rule for basketball per 247 Sports

Can't the NBA just say that you have to have a bachelor's degree as a condition of employment? I don't see why this would be an issue if they really wanted to put a stop to players leaving school early.

    Obama and NFL Stadium Financing

The proposal isn't that public money can't be used for building the stadiums, it's that the cities and states have to pay tax on the full cost of the interest of the loans. Seems like that part is getting lost but maybe I'm reading things wrong... Given that, I don't see that much will change...

    Iona at Wake - 8:30 ESPN3

I know little to nothing about coaching basketball, but why is it that apparently none of the coaches we've had in a while can teach teach the team how to beat a zone? It seems even back to Skip all a team had to do was play zone and we look clueless. As far as I know, you can either shoot over...

Tell me about European football clubs

I'm not saying there is much parity in the EPL, I'm simply saying there isn't much parity in any league. I agree that the top 6-10 teams are pretty much set each year due to the amount of money allowed to come in (though the FFP rules should put a damper on that somewhat) and that the teams in...

Tell me about European football clubs

I don't really buy the argument that the NFL has so much more parity than any other league but I suppose that depends on your definition of parity. In most leagues around the world, the team on top can be beaten by the team on the bottom if the top team doesn't show up for that game. However...

Tell me about European football clubs

Relegation is needed in American sports. Reward teams that beat their competition and give them a chance to prove themselves at a higher level, what's not to love? Your local team could hit a good streak and suddenly the Durham Bulls, Charleston Riverdogs, WS Dash, are playing in the major...

OGB Article: The glory that used to be Wake Forest sports

I was able to watch last year online, I probably used firstrowsports.eu but there might have been another site too. Maybe AXS had a link to watch?

    Unpopular opinions

Along the patriotism lines, I don't the US is that great of a country. We suck at a lot of important things, chief among them education and health care. And we're also too close-minded (closed-minded? see previous education comment) to listen to ideas from other societies that might be good...

    A website design question

On touchscreens, sliders usually take advantage of the swiping gestures to navigate them. I think that's pretty easy and intuitive to use, and judging from their prevalence I'd say most users would agree. I've never done any usability testing with them though so that is purely conjecture on my...

    A website design question

This. Also, I'd avoid the use of dropdowns in the nav menus if at all possible. It introduces accessibility issues for some users and adds a layer of complication that just isn't needed most of the time. It also makes viewing on a touchscreen really weird and clunky if you're not making a...

DirecTV NFL Ticket - might be worth a phone call...

I read up on the Madden offer and it seems to be legit. Only trick to it is that you can't watch it on your TV (mobile and computer only) unless you hook up a computer to your tv. The DirecTV app might have the AirPlay capability but I'd highly doubt it. Mine should get here tomorrow so I'll...

    Pit Fishing Thread

Just a caveat, you may have trouble finding a boat that will take more than 6 out. The most I've been able to find on a single boat for sportfishing is 8, and that took some digging. If you want to just do bottom fishing on a big head boat it shouldn't be a problem though.

Haven't made it to The Ordinary but have heard very good things. XBB is fantastic. But those are the only two places on that list I've been to, so in a vacuum I'd say yes.

Has anyone here ever ridden the Virginia Creeper Trail in SW VA?

I believe I hiked and biked this on a Boy Scout trip when I was younger, though I think we only went as far as Damascus. It's an old railroad bed so it's a really easy grade, but I also only did the downhill part. I would imagine that going up isn't going to be like the Alps or anything, but...

    Homebrewing Beer

Speaking of hops, I'm about to dry hop an IPA and am a bit unclear as to what to do with the bag. Do I need to add a weight of some kind to get it to sink to the bottom? Or can I just drop the bag and let it float on top? If I need weights, any suggestions/warnings on materials?
