WFU Hoops: '24-'25 Roster Construction Thread: (-) Carr, Monsanto, Ituka, Clark, Miller, Marsh, Keller, Canka / (+) Spillers, Biliew, Cosby

The next shoe to drop is going to be when schools are allowed to pay the players, but now we can’t afford to have soccer and tennis teams because we have to use that money on football and basketball. People are going to hate that too. Pandora’s box has been opened, and we’re never coming back...

It’s not free market capitalism at all. It’s an artificial market because the most natural way for paying the players—out of the revenues they generate—is closed.

I think we can be critical of them given they’re now an integral player in putting a roster together. If Forbes said Carr was staying two weeks ago, only to turn around be like “lol jk”, I think it would be fair to wonder if he was on top of his shit. Given that RTQ is supposed to be putting...

I guess signing portal guys is like marrying someone who’s already cheated. If they’ve done it once, they’ll probably do it again

All of you who wanted to pay the players and get rid of transfer restrictions, congrats!

    The RTQ Collective Thread

If we are spending any significant amount of NIL money on WBB right now, we should stop. Because it’s not getting us anything

Really the courts have totally fucked college sports. Things were generally fine under the NCAA for decades before Brett Kavanaugh decided to get involved

Yeah, that’s the whole problem with NIL and why a lot of people argued very strongly against opening the door to it. It inevitably turns into pay-to-play

You’re not supposed to be paying their salaries though. You’re supposed to be compensating them for your use of their name, image, and likeness rights. Anyone feel like they’re getting their money’s worth in that regard?

I don’t have any current need for any athlete’s name, image, or likeness, so not sure what I’d be paying for

Welcome to the portal era! This is the logical conclusion of all the people moaning for years about transfer restrictions, and how XYZ player with a sob story wasn’t eligible to play immediately. Turns out those restrictions were pretty important to making this a fun sport to follow!

    The Bubble

Their “optics” are even worse than ours. They’ve lost 3 of their last 4 heading into the NCAA tournament—all of those losses coming to non-tournament teams (if Wake is not a tournament team), and they’ll be coming fresh off of a 20+ point loss to a horrible BC team

    The Bubble

You will never convince me that it makes sense that Clemson is a lock for a decent seed and Wake is out when Wake (1) finished ahead of Clemson in the ACC (at least on tiebreakers); (2) beat Clemson head-to-head; and (3) Clemson just lost three of four to non-tournament teams, including getting...

    2023-24 Wake Women's Basketball (7-24) - Signed 6-2 PF/C Kennedy Moore from Montana

https://godeacs.com/news/2024/3/3/womens-basketball-deacs-net-season-high-31-in-third-quarter-run This is approaching Baghdad Bob levels of spin. Hey we got blown out, but at least we scored a lot of points in one of the four quarters!

Official Kyle Filipowski assaulted a wake fan thread.

I know people in the athletic department at OSU, and although OSU can’t actually come out and say it, it was kind of Caitlin Clark’s fault. They had security on the court protecting the Iowa team, but rather than staying with her team and the security, Clark decided to run out ahead of them...

Official Kyle Filipowski assaulted a wake fan thread.

Is it actually that dangerous though? It’s been happening dozens of times a year for decades and nobody’s ever actually gotten hurt from it. The bus ride to the stadium is probably more dangerous
