'17 Specials & '18 Midterms Thread

MDMH loves the military and what it stands for. any port in a storm, eh, friend?
*flashes back to all the times jhmd said I hate police officers just because I said the criminal justice system is racist*

yep.

like I said, any port
Sure thing jhmd, you've really trapped me here in this logic puzzle. How can I respect a single troop if I dont respect ALL troops or the military industrial complex? It's a real conundrum for me.

New FEC Data Points to Severe Risk for House GOP

5. President Trump is a more effective fundraiser for Democrats than any high-profile leader on the left.
Democratic donors' sky-high enthusiasm is the result of their antipathy to Trump and attraction to candidates' stories. Powerful, viral bio videos by M.J. Hegar (TX-31) and Amy McGrath (KY-06) have proven more effective fundraising tools than emails from 2020 aspirants or visits from Nancy Pelosi —- which is why few Democrats express allegiance to the current leadership.

A Democratic Blue Wave? Don’t Forget the Republicans’ Big Hill

Basically don't forget: gerrymandering, but also has some interesting comparisons to 2006 and 2010. One thing I didn't know:

The pattern in the 2010 election, on the other hand, was quite different. Republicans wiped out Democrats in Republican-leaning districts, but made very few gains in areas that voted comfortably for President Obama.

Kind of crazy since they picked up so many seats.

Exactly how am I slumming it? I love Ojeda, I think hes the perfect Appalachian candidate.

I don't think ITC understands that the active military and veterans are a diverse group of people who embrace many political perspectives. So for him, a progressive who likes a progressive veteran is a hypocrite.

Yeah, I really don't understand where ITC is going with this criticism. I've been extremely clear that I think the best Democratic candidate model is a grassroots economic populist with socially liberal beliefs (LGBTQ protections, policing accountability, legalize weed, end war on drugs, pro choice) with the background and identity that best represents their district. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Richard Ojeda are both great candidates who fit their districts.

The House just passed a bill zeroing out $300M in aid to the states to protect the election.

Really smart!!!!

Completely agree. Homegrown progressive activism is the best kind. Lots of teachers, veterans, and other public servants are stepping up to the plate. It's inspiring to see.

For example, 2016 National Teacher of the Year Jahana Hayes is running for CT-5 (Dem Etsy is retiring after not firing a chief of staff accused of sexual abuse).

“I know how to fight hard to make sure we are improving the lives of people with better jobs, stronger schools, affordable health care, giving the care with expect from our neighbors. If Congress starts to look like us, no one can stop us.”

oh i agree, defeat the republicans at all cost
what is "the cost" in Ojeda's case? You keep hinting at some progressive compromise in his campaign. Why dont you just say what it is?

because evidently trolling you is more exciting than the combo of rube-life and fatherdom

This is some "get off my lawn" shit if I ever saw any lol

meh. From watching the videos on his page the man looks like he worked his ass off and is a good dude and was beside himself with pride that his son was going into the Navy, and the kid didn't have enough respect for the situation to tuck his shirt in as he entered the military, an institution that his dad is proud of and that emphasizes having your shirt tucked in out of respect.

Not the end of the world, but certainly worthy of some good-natured ribbing.

Ocasio-Cortez needs to brush up on her economics understanding. Her claim that unemployment is low because everybody has two jobs is providing great fodder for right leaning outlets in their effort to point her has a clueless socialist and the left as clueless on economics.

It’s also galvanizing people who work two jobs to get by while people they know have no jobs.

What would you tell her she’s getting wrong?

Jesus Christ, you're out of touch. Also, why are you so concerned about what Republicans think of a Brooklyn congressional Democrat?

That the unemployment rate has nothing to do with people having two jobs?
