2015 Basketball Coaching Carousel (Bo Ryan to retire in 2016)

Bowling Green HC Chris Jans fired for slapping some rando chick on the ass in a bar.

Jans' inappropriate conduct toward several women at a bar on March 21. Jans was seen touching one woman's head and moving it toward his body, and touching the buttocks of another woman. Jans later admitted he did not know if this woman was a student or employee at BGSU. When confronted by another woman, a student at another university visiting her family, Jans called her an inappropriate name. There was then a "physical interaction" between two groups: Jans and some others with BGSU basketball, and the young woman's family.

The only basis on which UCLA is a better job than Texas is tradition, and UCLA hasn't won a title in 20 years and hasn't been the dominant program in the country in 40 years. Current recruits were not alive when UCLA won in 1995 and many of their parents weren't alive when UCLA was dominant in the 60s and 70s. Texas is equal or better in virtually every respect: resources, facilities, size of fanbase, national exposure, recent success, NBA alums, competition in natural recruiting territory, quality of life for coach, cost of living, conference.
All this, plus the West Coast recruiting difficulties and relative lack of TV exposure.

God what a moron. It is hilarious though that this all took place the same night his team was smacked at home in the 2nd round of the CIT by Canisus.

This is ridiculous. Since Texas's last run to the Final Four, UCLA has been to 3 Final Fours, including one final. They also have two straight runs to the Sweet Sixteen. Texas during that time has one run to the Elite Eight. Texas has a ton of money, for sure, but with that money apparently comes an inflated sense of its own basketball program. It is a good job, for sure, and certainly better than Wake is now, but it is not better than UCLA (except for income taxes). And hoops recruiting, unlike football recruiting, does not revolve around Texas and a few other schools in the state of Texas. Prestige does mean something, in spite of one's date of birth.

Texas is a better job than Wake. So my recommendation is to just get over it.

Never said a word about Wake Forest but thanks for your insightful comment.

How is this possible? Prohm just got a raise and signed a contract extension last week w/ Murray State that will carry him through 2020.

Every coaching contract has termination provisions. By signing that deal, Murray State upped the buy-out (so they will have more cash to offer its next coach), but not uncommon for a coach to sign an extension and then take another job.

Goodman says Mike White is still in the running in addition to Steve Prohm.

Was Mike White actually approached for our opening? We know Shaka was targeted, and it sounded like Archie Miller was approached too. After that, anyone have a sense how far down we went before offering DM?

Depends on who you believe.

RW will tell you that DM was our man all along.

I think Shaka and Manning were the only two that we got seriously far along in the process with, but we seemed to have at least gauged the interest of Archie Miller, Tommy Amaker, Mike White, Ben Howland and a few others.
