2015 Oscars Thread

How were Gyllenhaal and Oyelowo left out of the Best Actor category? That is a bigger snub to me than Lego Movie
 
Just got tickets for American Sniper for tonight. Came with a free Nook Book.

I really liked the Dragon movies and the Despicable Me ones too. :noidea: they are for children, should they not be "kiddish"? Do you like other animation?

I have tried to watch a few but haven't seen most of them. Have lost interest in some that I did try to watch (Royal Tenenbaums), I just don't really get them. That said, I really liked The Grand Budapest Hotel. Keep meaning to go back and try Moonrise Kingdom again, and I've heard so many great things about Fantastic Mr. Fox.

I also thought both of them were excellent, though the Best Actor nominations were all pretty strong.

Right? Those two performances were absolutely incredible. I still need to see The Theory of Everything and The Imitation Game. I don't really have any urge to see American Sniper for some reason. Eastwoods last few films have been pretty bad.
 
I'm kind of glad Interstellar didn't get nominated for anything, maybe Nolan will realize he's kind of a shitty writer; especially when trying to make Oscar bait.

AS isn't very good. Like a watered down Hurt Locker. Eastwood is seemingly just going through the motions. Gyllenhaal being snubbed is ridiculous. Phoenix and Brolin were amazing in Inherent Vice, they also got jobbed.

PTSD? Yeah right. In real life, Chris Kyle was a stone cold killer. In his memoirs he described killing Iraqis as 'fun', and something that 'he loved to do'. Just such an odd person/story for Eastwood to turn around and make into a rah-rah American Patriot movie. I'll wait for on demand version and give it a try. Hopefully it's not as bad as that Zero Dark Thirty crap.

have you guys seen the movie? bc exactly zero of the actual reviews of the movies indicate that type of tone

What were you expecting from the Lego Movie? 96% on RT by the way. One of the biggest surprise hits of the year.

I saw it, have you? It's decently entertaining, bunch of faceless evil Arabs getting killed like a video game while Bradley Cooper calls the entire country savages.
