2017 College Basketball Coaching Carousel (Matta out at Ohio State)

Certainly makes me want to buy a $60 dollar t-shirt. Hell, gimme two.

Doesn't everyone at State want Doeren fired?

I ceartinly do not. He's the first coach in years that's actually building a program at State. This is the year that some more positive results need to be seen but the talent he's put together is so much better than anything we've had in a long time. Especially on the OL/DL.

Rumored Dayton coaching candidates:

- Greg Paulus (6 year assistant at tOSU; at this point very familiar with Ohio HS basketball)
- Anthony Grant (former VCU and Bama head coach played at Dayton is now an NBA assistant for the OKC Thunder)
- Dane Fife (Michigan assistant; very highly regarded; turned down the Duquesne head job)
- James Whitford (Ball State head coach; has turned the program around 21-13 this year; was an assist at Xavier before getting the BSU job)
- Jeff Boals (was top tOSU assistant under Matta until he got the Stonybrook job; went 18-12 in year one there)
- Ron Hunter (Georgia State head coach; multiple NCAA appearances; Dayton native)
- Tom Crean (says he wants to coach)
- Pat Kelsey (could this be why he had change of heart for the UMASS job)
- Dayton's top assistant Kevin Kuwick (likely endorsed by Archie; 6 year Dayton assistant; also spent a year as an assistant under Brad Stevens at Butler; before that spent many years as an assistant at Ohio U; knows the State)

Quinnipaic, yes they are D-1, just hired Baker Dunleavy (brother of the Dukie, and an assistant at Nova) as head coach.

Looks like a pretty strong list of candidates. Still so hard to believe that we couldn't put together such a list.... when we somehow ended up with Bzzzzzz?! :tard:

Literally had Bzzzzz in the house at the time and he talked his way into being our coach with all his bball acumen at the time. Remember he was the Air Force coach that gave us a huge beat down in Colorado Springs when we were highly ranked and he & AD knew each other from Northwestern days. Plus we were coming off the turndown of Butler coach [or should I say the up rise of Brad Stevens as a coach, thus keeping him at Butler]. This was very very similar unfortunately in what happened in 1985 when we thought we had Gary Williams, a little known coach at American University, then at BC. He put together a 20-11 season at BC, was coming to Wake and was supposedly boarding the plane to come to his presser in Winston. Had a change of heart, said he "loved his kids" blah blah blah and didn't want to leave them. Goes 13-15 the next year and high tails it out for Ohio State [guess he didn't love a losing team!]. We got stuck with Bob Staak [on the rec's of Billy Packer, Fred Barakat & Jim Valvano supposedly.]

Wait. Your house? You helped give us [Redacted]? If so i recomend permanent ban.

His results can't justify the choice. They were terrible.

No, the AD. The Bz's daughter was a student at Wake and was ill. So instead of having them stay in a hotel, RW did the very nice thing of having them stay at his house. They talked basketball, etc where things apparently turned to our job, who would make a good coach........and the rest is history as they say.

Not even close. We were 5-0, but everyone knew that team was thoroughly mediocre.

2017 College Basketball Coaching Carousel (Archie Miller to Indiana)

That was probably our worst post-Staak team before Bz.

I wonder how close we were to getting Brad Stevens

Like what if Butler had lost in the sweet 16 that year

Butler barely beat Murray State in the second round that year. Close to not getting out of the first weekend.

Stevens was the hottest coach before the tournament started. The Finals run just solidified it.

He was never coming to Wake. It's one of the biggest board myths.

second part could be true, first part not accurate

Word is that G'town offered (or was ready to offer) Brey, and he declined. Also, there are reports that Ed Cooley took his name out of consideration for the G'town job.

Why would Brey leave ND for Georgetown? C'mon, people.
