2019-20 College Basketball Thread

PER+Per 36 minute projections+effective FG% should make Snacks the stat geeks NPOY and on his way to the HOF.

I thought they said on SportsCenter that he missed the first three before that. Regardless, awesome moment. In fact, if he missed the first three, it’s even more awesome that he finally nailed one.

Wojo and Marquette doing their patented shitting of the bed at the end of the season again this year.

And yesterday’s news, Nate Oats, just led his Alabama squad to a home loss against SEC doormat, Vanderbilt.

Bubble burst.

Amazing how often teams whose poll ranking far exceeds their Kenpom ranking tend to play down to their Kenpom ranking. Latest example Kentucky losing to the Vols at home.

Kenny Pom is the truth y'all

In the 2nd half, I was going back and forth between election results and the Tex/Okla game. God that game was offensively challenged and set the game back 50 years.

Two WAC teams (Chicago State and UMKC) refused to play road games scheduled for this week at U of Seattle because of coronavirus fears. As a result, the WAC awarded U of Seattle two conference wins. Chicago State may decline to play in the WAC tourney. FWIW, Chicago State is 4-25 on the season (they are rated as the worst team in Division 1) and have yet to win a WAC conference game since 2018 (32 straight conference losses). So, a WAC tourney run would seem improbable, even if they participated.

Aren't you also a Virginia fan?

A season ticket holder. And yes, they're offensively challenged this year because they lost 3 guys early to the Association. But if you've watched them the last several years, their offensively efficiency has actually been pretty good. They just used to take the air out of the ball and try to create late in the clock to cut down on the number of possessions in a game. The results have been pretty good, and I'd argue that Bennett's usual approach with the packline, which leads to a lot of poor shots late in shot clocks, and his plodding blocker/mover offense have given his teams made up of 2*s, 3*s and 4*s a great chance to win on a nightly basis. If that is setting college hoops back, I'm all for it.

Does anyone know how the ACC Tourney bracket is going to work now that GT has given up their appeal and won't play? They're currently on course to be the 8th seed. Is that seed just going to be a bye, or what?

Everybody below GaTech in the ACC standings moves up one spot. Only two games on Tuesday. 11-14 and 12-13.

Which is how Wake could avoid a loss on Tuesday. Wake could finish with the 10 seed. IF a lot happens.

So basically the season will be over by no later than a week from now.

And then the fun begins.

If Wake gets by Tuesday, either by beating a fellow cellar dweller or getting the 10 seed, next up will be one of: Syracuse, Notre Dame, Clemson, NC State on Wednesday.

The ACC is really split in (uneven) thirds. Four teams at the top (Louisville, Duke, FSU, UVA), who will have at least 13 wins; five in the middle (Syr, Clem, GaTech, ND and NC State) who will finish 11-9, 10-10 or 9-11 and the six cellar dwellers (Pitt, u*NC, Wake, VaTech, Miami, BC) all of which will finish 6-14,7-13 or 8-12.

Teams can shift positions within their tier, but can't move out. Two of the cellar dwellers will not play on Tuesday.
