2021 Football Coaching Carousel

Franklin better sign that contract ASAP, as Penn State has a good chance of finishing the season with a whimper.

5-0 start before dropping 2 straight (about to be 3).

Remaining schedule:
@ OSU
@ Maryland
Michigan
Rutgers
@ Michigan State

They could easily end up 6-6 or 7-5.

Yeah, not sure Franklin is really all that.

I don’t like him - think he’s arrogant and little too in your face but he’s a damn good coach. I wouldn’t be shocked if he’s already inking a deal with LSU or USC and is just mailing it in

The good thing about firing your coach midseason is that you can get started with your search and maybe have some in place early enough to recruit before the early signing day.

The bad thing is that the hot target you focus on could end up looking like a shitty, underwhelming hire by the end of the season.

Gary Patterson is ex-coach of Texas Christian effective immediately. He was in his 21st season there.

Jerry Kill is interim.

TCU is just enough of a better job than Wake- a bit of a bigger school, Texas market for TV, Texas high school football recruiting in DFW, etc. I don’t see Dave being interested in a Texas job at this stage of his career. Also- their future in unsure with Big 12 losing its luster.

Wonder if they would have pulled the trigger now if Texas Tech hadn't fired Wells. TCU would have to be viewed the better job, so they jump the line in front of TT for candidates.

Very good point but I don’t see Sony Dykes moving across Metroplex. Also- think that Art Briles only makes sense at Tech vs. TCU. He played at Tech and Lubbock is in middle of nowhere. TCU won’t hire him but Tech might. The guy from UTSA also might be in the mix or Seth Litrell from UNT.

After Southwest Conference folded TCU was initially not invited to join the Big 12. Texas Tech was. Gary Patterson saved the TCU program as he built TCU into a regular top 25 program when they were relegated to the Mountain West. If TCU had had poor, or even average seasons then the TCU program would’ve faded into oblivion

If Clawson leaves we must look at Hugh Freeze.

He may not be interested. I don't think there's a decent escort service in W-S. But, if he's reformed, or could convince Currie and Wente that he has, he's a damn good coach.

Clawson is an incredible fit for Wake. He is our George Welsh long term dream fit who can define our program at a high level. That is the outcome we need to focus on.

Patterson made them from nothing to an occasional top-25 team. The firing may be justified, but letting him go mid-season is a low-class move. That makes LSU, USC, Texas Tech, Washington State, and now TCU the "prime" available jobs. Add Penn State if Franklin leaves, Va Tech if they let Fuente go at the end of the season and Liberty if Freeze takes one of the available jobs. Fickell isn't likely to leave Cincy. Traylor just signed a 10-year $28M extension at UTSA (which won't prevent him from leaving if he really wants to) and then there's Chadwell at Coastal who may be lured away to fame and fortune elsewhere. So who goes where?

TCU better job than Wake? are you serious?

Duke is arguably the worst FBS team in the Carolinas. I have no idea what their AD is doing. They lost to a bad Charlotte team and there is no doubt that App State and Coastal would both whoop them. ECU and South Carolina have more life than that Duke team.

They’ve had lot more success than Wake has over last 20 years. DFW is much bigger market and recruiting market than the Triad. Their facilities are great and it’s a bigger school than Wake. With the Big 12 uncertainty, it definitely loses it luster. I don’t think it’s good enough for Dave to look at though.
