2021 Republican Coup (Practice Run)

Over time on a national basis to republicans continue to shed votes. It's pretty much baked in now that the democratic presidential candidate is going to win the popular vote by millions.

Sure but it’s also baked into the system for them to control multiple branches without having a majority of votes. They’re not even concerned with winning a majority of votes.

The folks in my study groups and close associates are 90% republican and independent and all voted trump. I will go with my statement.

Interesting. I hear similarly from a friend in Texas. And the Shenandoah Valley would be similar. I guess our slogan should be Charlottesville, even our Pubs are reasonable.

Sadly Charlottesville isn’t know for reasonable Republicans.

True, but except for Kessler, none of the rest of those folks were from Cville, and he was just an unemployed loud mouth. Those right wing folks love picking liberal college cities to do their thing - first Berkeley, then Portland, then Cville. I credit our former general district court judge as to why there hadn't been subsequent similar rallies until 1/6. All the out of town white supremacists were getting 6-12 month active sentences for simple batteries. And the subsequent civil litigation is still ongoing. It got to be quite expensive to hold such an event.

I always hope that ours are but after a few statements and congenialties they always harden down into whataboutisms, socialist agendas, taking my guns, I pay to much in taxes, etc. etc etc

What’s asinine about it? Violent white mobs trying to reverse elections are nothing new.

Not that part. It is the part that W.F. Buckley's great nephew being part of the riot makes Buckley and the conservative principles he espoused responsible for producing Trumpism. That may or may not be true.

The presence or absence of Buckley's great nephew has little, if any, relevance to the philosophical arguement.

This guy thinks it's certainly true, fwiw. As has been said ad nauseum, Trump is the culmination of decades of conservative leaders not saying the quiet parts out loud but steadily shifting to the cult it is now. This is who most conservatives really are, and Trump is just their Id and he has certainly emboldened them to start saying the quiet parts loud and do things like, you know, armed insurrection.

I suspect that cancelling the Bachelor will be the tipping point where America cannot recover

Former Sen. John Danforth (R-MO) and former Cong. Tom Coleman (R-MO) have called for the invocation of 14th Amendment for Trump AND every elected official who was at The Capitol to ban all of them from ever holding elected office again. I think including others with Trump make it more palatable. It would be interesting to see if Mo Brooks would be on the list.

This is a serious question for the lawyers. If you and a friend decide to do a "prank" and steal a 12-pack, then your friend kills the cashier while stealing the 12-pack, you are guilty of murder. Trump planned this insurrection for months, spent millions organizing it, then told the mob he would go with them to the Capitol and for them to fight like hell, why aren't he, Junior and Rudy being held responsible for Officer Sisnick's death, the gouging of the eye of another Capitol cop and the brutal attacks on over 125 other cops? Why aren't they responsible for the damage and other crimes as co-conspirators?

Why aren't they civilly responsible as well?
