2022 College Football Coaching Carousel

So McCaffrey's a better QB than Patterson, Milton, and McNamara ? I don't think you'll get much argument there.
First of all, it's McCarthy.

McCaffrey was a former QB prospect who tranferred.

Gattis was hired in 2019 after one year at Bama as co-offensive coordinator. Harbaugh completely revamped the offense from Gattis in 2021 and had a better offense with McNamara. That offense looked pretty similar in 2022 until they started loosening the leash on McCarthy. There's probably a reason Miami let Gattis go after one year when the offense was worse.

Yeah, McCarthy. Hopefully he will lead Big Blue to a bowl win someday.

Miami is a shitshow. I'm not the hugest Gattis fan, but Cristobal's got a mess down there and Ruiz is just burning money.

This Notre Dame OC debacle is hilarious. Freeman wanted the Utah OC and even went to a Notre Dame hockey game with him. Then the school wouldn’t pay the buyout ($2.8MM which does seem kind of ludicrous for an OC). So now they are back on the search again. Absolute JV level from a program that wants to be seen as a real title contender.

Think they elevated their TE coach to the job

Wonder what Sam is thinking about all of the OC issues.

ND is so cheap. They don’t really care about football, only when it helps academics. Not sure why coaches fall all over themselves to be there. Being at Bama or GA seems bigger to me

Ravens hire Willie Taggart as RB coach. Crazy career arc:
  • Western Kentucky (1999) Wide receivers coach
  • Western Kentucky (2000) Quarterbacks coach
  • Western Kentucky (2001–2002) Co-offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach
  • Western Kentucky (2003–2006) Assistant head coach/quarterbacks coach
  • Stanford (2007–2009) Running backs coach
  • Western Kentucky (2010–2012) Head coach
  • South Florida (2013–2016) Head coach
  • Oregon (2017) Head coach
  • Florida State (2018–2019) Head coach
  • Florida Atlantic (2020–2022)Head coach
  • Baltimore Ravens (2023–present)Running backs coach
Taggart is still only 46. Got his first head coaching job at 33; he was the HC of Power V school by 40.

Random fact about Willie Taggart: KC Armstrong of the Howard Stern Show was his backup when Taggart was QB at Western Kentucky.

no surprise Taggart is coaching for John Harbaugh. Taggart played for Harbaugh's dad at WKU and was recruited there by Jim Harbaugh, who at the time was an NFL player and an unpaid assistant for his father at WKU. As noted above, one of Taggart's coaching stops was Stanford under Jim H.

Tight End's coach seems to be sort of a catch-all for guys you want on staff but don't really have somewhere to put them, like Sumlin at Maryland. More and more teams are using it as a way to get a guy on the coaching staff who can help make on-the-field adjustments, while if they were analysts, they wouldn't be able to help on game day.

His third Big Ten co-OC or OC job at 39 years old. Fifth total.

Kliff Kingsbury heading to USC to join Lincoln Riley. Heavy Mike Leach influence at work here.
