2023-2024 NCAA Men's Basketball Thread

It's a bit of a mixed bag of emotions because we want Clemson and Virginia to be Q1 wins, but also don't want them to win too much for double-bye considerations.

If we just win like we should the latter will work itself out, so I'm a big fan of those two except when we play them.

Pacific lost to St. Mary's by 41 last night. It was their 16th straight loss to a D-1 opponent. Pacific is #344 in the country and has not won a D-1 game since beating #362 Mississippi Valley State in OT on November 29, 2023. Yet through the application of transitive reasoning only available in college basketball, Pacific is only a few degrees from beating every NCAA team:

Always!.... this also cracks the window that when Wake wins out they steal the ACC regular season even though Bacot said the ACC runs through him.

I think Forbes should tell our guys that Ben Middlebrooks said the ACC runs through him. Because he sort of acts like it anyway

Wake's going to have tons of incentive to bring down the hammer on NCS on Saturday.
Yeah, if our guys can't get amped up to get revenge on an in-state rival team in Wake's home gym, I'm not really sure what we are doing here. I'm sure several of them have been waiting for this game since that night in Raleigh.

I'm curious to see what happens in the Pitt/NCSU game tonight. Two teams that beat Wake but feel like neither should have. Also two teams that still have to come play a potential revenge game in Winston. For ACC standing purposes, it's probably better if Pitt wins, but in the grand scheme of things it really doesn't matter too much

ACC PM has been going hard at the Big 12 this afternoon. 2 different guests calling out the BS of their OOC schedules. Something like, as a conference, they are 59-0 this year against the Southland (#30), Swac (#31) and the Horizon (#21) leagues. And the conference has a combined OOC schedule rank of #285 (around this #, can't remember the exact number) out of 330 total teams. Also the ACC is 9-3 against them this year. Not sure if it was best on best, but to have Lunardi say that they get 10 teams and the ACC gets 3 is ridiculous. They were also extremely high on us getting in and thought it was laughable that we were only in "the last 4 out."

Rumor is that Lunardi was rejected when he applied to Wake as per Packer. ;)

That could be the only explanation for his Wake hate.

Asheville had a good first half even though Pember was in foul trouble. HPU is down 8 at the half.

HPU went down. 12 game winning streak is over so time to start a new one!

Pitt up 2 with 2:20 left.

How is GT shooting this poorly??
Sitting there at that end of the floor watching it was like cellophane was on the bucket. Many great looks just rolled right off. Made their first 3 pointer then missed 24 in a row. Scoreboard read 4% FG% and that was hard to fathom!

Just had Charles Barkley interviewed around halftime of the Bama @ Auburn game. Of course their announcers said SEC was the best conference and were getting 9 in. Barkley disagreed with them saying he watches a lot of college bball while on the road to get himself prepared for March Madness and he said the Big 12 was easily the best.
Auburn’s win over Bama also made for a 3 way tie for first in SEC with Bama, Auburn & SC (and UT a half game behind) all with only 2 losses.
