You would imagine if we saw players with those stats transferring IN to Wake we would think they could get some spot minutes or hope they were some sort of specialist. I still think we could have potentially used Taylor if he got more run and calmed down some. We never really got to see enough of McCray to know anything.

Ultimately them transferring seems to have worked out best for all parties.

Maybe last year. Hard to see him getting minutes over pretty much any guard on this roster.

Agreed. Happy both guys found a home to play a lot of minutes and put up good numbers. They obviously had talent even if not as starters at this level.

I don't see it with Taylor. It would be nice to have McCray be a backup PG to Miller, but we thought Jao may be pushing him to start before a second major injury.

Forbes knew he had to recruit over Taylor, McCray and Carter Whitt. Williams, Appleby, Ituka. Jao Ituka's two serious injuries have messed with the depth at point guard.

McCray has a big-time upside with his athletic ability. He has the talent to play at high level, but he was super-raw. A decade plus ago, he might be ready to contribute his third year in, and then possibly excel as a senior. With the transfer portal, power programs can't be patient with incoming freshman; if they can't get time early, there will be a portal player to take their minutes. So, the new way is for guy like McCray and Lucas to either not get Power V offers at all (which is why mid-majors are as good as ever) or transfer out of a power school for PT at a lower level.

Wouldn't be shocked if McCray balls out this year and next at J'ville (and he is trending in that direction) that he ends up playing his 5th year at a power program, and kicking ass.

WF right in the middle of both three point attempts per game and field goal percentage. Geez, MD basketball looks like Mitch Griffis QBRs from football season:

I feel like since the first 2 games or so we’ve gotten a lot better at not going 4, 5 or 6 possessions in a row of settling for tough 3’s. Those wasted possessions hurt in the long run, and usually require a timeout to stop. It’s also indicative of not working the ball high/low enough, which is why we usually struggle with packed in 2-3 zones.

Yeah, I was disappointed McCray didn't stick around. He had incredible athletic ability. Just never got to see what else he had.

Would it be Reid or Canka that would be off the roster if McCray was still at Wake?

A Chicago Judge is holding a hearing today (and may rule on it from the bench) in the Bewley v. NCAA case. In the case, the Bewley twins played for OT Elite, and now seek to play for Chicago State. The NCAA denied the request saying that Bewleys gave up their amateur status by playing for a professional league. The Bewleys are arguing among other things that the current NCAA rules essentially allow players to be compensated via NIL and other means. If Bewleys win, a new avenue to recruit players would open up. The Bewleys also argue that that even if athletes did violate NCAA eligibility rules, those rules themselves violate antitrust law. The state of Illinois representatives have also suggested that the NCAA’s treatment of the Bewley brothers is in conflict with Illinois’ state NIL law.

If Bewleys win, some people think that the NCAA will give up trying to enforce any restraints on players compensation or ability to transfer.

The NCAA can give it up now. They will lose on most legal issues. They know it, that's why they have looked to Congress for help. I doubt Congress will come to their aid. If P5 football wants to restructure it should probably pull away from the NCAA and start fresh with a clean sheet of paper, cognizant of the legal demands of the day and future. The balance of Division one can then restructure in a model more appropriate to their financial realities.
