2023 WF Soccer Thread - NCAA Tourney 2nd Round - Hoosiers Visit Spry 5 pm Sunday ESPN+

#1 Wake lost to #4 Duke 3-2. Deacs got outplayed but it still would have been a draw if not for giving up that major brainfart goal.

Yeah, that misplay by our goalie was a major gaffe. Baba nearly had a ridiculous top shelf goal there at the end. Maybe that’s who my daughter was talking about - that kid is impressive.

Wake soccer struggling, 3 losses in a row since they were ranked #1. This is the longest losing streak for Wake soccer that I can remember in the past 15 years.

This would be an interesting stat to track. Wake has been so good, but its crazy to think that we seriously might have not lost three in a row in that span

As far as I can tell, the last time Men's Soccer lost three in a row was back in 2004:

9/17/04 vs. UVA
9/21/04 vs. UNCG
9/24/04 vs. UofSC

They won 9 in a row after that and finished 15-5-3 on the season. Source.

Outshot Bill & Mary 14-5 (6-2 on goal) but lost. Their only two shots on goal were goals.

The Lady Soccer Deacs play at #2 UNC tonight. ACCN+

The men host BC tomorrow, also ACCN+.

2 wins would be nice.

Ladies lose 1-0
Didn't watch
Men are in desperate need of a good effort to get things back on track

coming off two needed wins, the men travel to Charlottesville Saturday night. UVA seems to have gotten their shit together after a 6-1 loss to Maryland early on - they have beaten Syracuse, Pitt and Clemson, and tied Duke.

Clemson lost to Cuse and tied Pitt

so Pitt, Cuse and Clemson are 1-1-2 against each other, a combined 9-2 against everybody else in the ACC, and 0-3 against UVA

Ill be in cville with the family tomorrow night go deacs

Wakes loses to UVA 0-1, have to imagine we fall out of the rankings. Exactly 21 days ago we were ranked #1 in the nation, coming off a 6-1 asskicking at Clemson. Crazy.

We really miss Hosei Kojima. Getting Cooper Flax back will help, but a big part of our issues have been CM-related (playing through the press and instituting our own midfield press).

The fall in the rankings is overdramatic; we're probably a #15-25 team right now (who has just played a bunch of teams playing better the past month and also had one of those games against W&M). I still think we're decent odds to go on a tear in the either or both tourneys. We clearly are not hitting on all cylinders now like we were at the start of the season, but there's still time to hit a good run of form.

Deacs close the regular season Friday night at home against Louisville

Looks like the Deacs need a win to get the #4 seed in the ACC tournament. This would bring a bye in the first round and a home game in the Quarterfinals. Lose or draw vs. UL, and the Deacs would need to host an opening round game, and go on the road for the ACC Quarters.

So...Friday would be a good day to find the form.

Are we in any danger of not making the NCAA’s?

WF is currently #28 in the RPI, which is 7th best in the ACC. Tournament field is 23 auto bids and 25 at-large, so WF should be safe, but best not lose out.

If WF loses to UL at home, WF would then play a terrible ACC team in round 1 of the ACC tournament - VT, BC, or NCSU. If WF lost that game, RPI would be 30+, and WF would have finished the season 3-6, which is not good.

If we go from #1 to not making the tourney that would be something

Huge game for WF this Friday at Spry @ 8 pm.

Regular season finale v. #9 L'ville. With a win, WF finishes second in the Atlantic, and likely sews up an NCAA bid. A loss and the Deacs may be on the wrong side of the NCAAT bubble.

The game will be televised on the ACCN.

Would be great for WF to sweep the Cards this weekend.
