A little History for those collected here

Absolutely at the same time. The three of us hung out for the entire tournament in Anaheim.

All jokes aside, I would pay Donald Ross type money if I had it to be a part of those festivities. It must've been amazing.

We had fun before, during and after the games. LD's mom sat with at some of the games and was a blast.

I seriously doubt more than one or two people on this board could have kept up with DR's wild schedule that 4-5 day weekend. At his age, I could have, but not in my 50s. I could have come close. :)

Was the AOL Board the same as the listserv we did by email? I remember doing that in the mid to late 90s.

This is purely IIRC, but I think that I created that listserv as a means of including non-AOL members. It's nothing to take too much credit for, I don't remember it lasting very long before Rancho came online. yitb

Yes, I am pretty sure it was. I may be thinking of two different AOL things, but it may have been part of a larger ACC ListServ, because I remember some moderator or whatever from UNC having something to do with it.

AOL had a full message board.

Right. AOL message boards were divided by conference and then by team. So, the ACC had its own section as did the Big 10, etc. Then, within the ACC boards, each ACC team had a discussion page. And, AOL also had chat nights for each conference. The ACC's night might have been Tuesday?

I think that's exactly right. I wasn't an AOL member but was on that listserv, just before the Rancho days. That listserv was the best thing about email back then.

I sought out the boards when Odom suddenly left. I was spinning from the news. So I am a "post-Odom" member.

You always took good care of me E!

Tibor and Bandwagon Boy were both done by Dan87. I have a Tibor rant on a hard drive, somewhere...and yes, the Buffy, the vampire killer threads were inspired by Blucas. The best moment in the then history of these internets was when Tibor started posting on some site devoted to Buffy (Boofy in a bow to Tibor). The teenage girls who apparently infested that place couldn't figure out what was going on. "What the fuck is a Daemon Diken?"

Tibor, from 8/01:

Tibor's posts on former UNC player "fouling cheater" Vasco Evtimov were gold.

I posted as deac4ever going back to the Rancho days. I remember my first post was in the summer of 98 (I think) and I posted a question about our recruitment of Matt Carroll (ended up signing with Notre Dame). I remember thinking how cool it was when I got 10 responses.

Anyone mention exclusiveclothes (Mike Conley's cousin) yet? God, he had us convinced Oden, Conley, and Cook was gonna happen.

A group of us met him in Memphis the night before the Ole Miss game in 2006. Good guy.

What year was that we were in Anaheim? I'm up to 144 NCAA hoops buildings but that place may have been the single strangest building I've ever seen a game. It was more like a conference center. We usually have the same 20 people at most games on the road. That week we had about 10 fans--including the whole Kelsey family.

I was running single that weekend & so the schedule was nuts even for me, in addition to the 3 Deacs hoops games, I hit up:
UCLA in Pauley, a USC hoops home game, Kobe & the Lakers, ND @ USC football, a Loyala Marymount home game & even RJKarl's house! I vaguely remember staying at some casino. This was in the pre Uber days & back when I was still "building my shit" i.e. broke so I concocted some scheme to walk from USC to the Lakers game & sneak in with a buddy working the press. Classic. Not sure how I drove everywhere back then like Spence. Now I hardly drive to the office.

I think you went to a hockey game as well. I'm pretty sure it was the Commerce Casino...wasn't there a pair of sisters as well? Or cousins?

I think it was 2008.

That building is used for NAMM, a book fair and other conventions. NAMM has amazing parties and big name musicians often show up and play at bars in the area.

RJ, hush it on the sisters, I got dads here. Yes, forgot about the Ducks game.
