ACA Running Thread

Dems can just sit back and watch the carnage.

Planned Parenthood funding will be eliminate by the new bill. If the Dems don't have 40 votes to block that in any form, they should quit.

Without the mandate, everything else falls apart. This bill is a joke.

A smart political strategy would be to always come out against any healthcare reform because it will never be enough so you can always count on it being unpopular.

Meanwhile, Obamacare looks good in the rear view mirror.

seriously one of the worst major bill roll-outs in history in that you didn't even build a coalition of your fucking base before drafting. paul ryan is such an empty-suited lightweight.

Question now though is whether or not Obamacare will live long enough to be replaced. The mandate has already been silently repealed, the Medicare/Medicaid funding being fucked with, and major carriers pulling out.

It's a carcass. Even better for Dems. They can blame Pubs for everything and can run in 2018 preventing Trump and the Pubs from making things worse and run in 2020 on health care reform. They just need to have a better plan this time.

Was there a scandal I missed regarding lottery winners being on Medicaid?

A significant portion of the bill is devoted to ensuring lottery winners don’t have access to Medicaid.
One of the most bizarre inclusions in the legislation is a provision that would prevent lottery winners from being able to remain covered by the Medicaid program. The 66-page document spends seven of those pages detailing this policy change.

Any plan that does not contend with the American diet is doomed to fail/be too expensive. We are in a GIGO system now. We eat like drunken sailors drive. No wonder our insurance is through the roof.

Governments role is education, proper subsidy policies, and protection from unhealthy chemicals in our food and water, and perhaps taxation on unhealthy foods. After setting a fair environment for healthy eating, people need to be responsible for themselves and let the health insurance industry operate like all the other types of insurance (that coincidentally, are not in crisis): life, auto, home. Of course part of the reason we are in the mess we are now is because of the government study of 1974, and its unintended consequences.

I do not think the Pubs will come up with a needed comprehensive plan - either ignorance, or unwilling to gore bulls in the food industry. We need fewer sick people, and people are eating themselves sick. For Pubs, it is easier to criticize and run than govern. Let's see what they got. ACA is a pretty low bar, though.

Pubs removing nutrition requirements from school lunches is a great first step.
