CHAPEL HILL – Sources close to the Atlantic Coast Conference and the Barclays Center in Brooklyn say the two parties have agreed to stage a future ACC Basketball Tournament at the brand new home of the Brooklyn Nets.

The ACC will vote on holding the tournament in New York Tuesday, but the sources say that the agreement has been made and the vote is a mere formality. Due to the addition of former Big East schools Notre Dame, Louisville, Pittsburgh and Syracuse, the ACC is anxious to play a tournament in the northeast.

The Barclays Center selected the ACC over the Big Ten, which has added Maryland and Rutgers to its conference membership. Both conferences may hold later tournaments in Brooklyn, but the ACC will come first.

Cool, my son just moved to a condo in Brooklyn about 4 blocks away from the Barclay center. May have to look into tickets.

Hey, come on up. This won't happen for a few years and at that point Bzdick will be gone and there is a chance we will be good again. NYC is not so bad and you'll have lots of other fun stuff to do even if we lose in the first round (assuming we make it past the Les Robinson/Jeff Bzdick play in game or whatever they call it by then and depending on how many teams are in the conference). Nice place to visit for the time being even if you wouldn't want to live here.

The Big 10 may hold tournament games in NYC? Ok...

I'm still cracking up that the ACC signed a deal with the Verizon Center in DC to host the 2016 tourney. Not a fan of moving the tourney around to different cities every year or two.

Cue the "you're such a fucking old grump" responses but anyone else really wish we had the ACC from the early 90s? Eight then nine teams and round-robin play all year and a tournament in Greensboro. That was the ACC. The shit we have today is like head-cheese. All kinds of unmatched shit, squished together, wrapped in a pretty package which hides what's inside, and sold to the highest bidder.

At least we don't have to listen to Gary Williams bitch about the tournament always being in Gboro. Just wait until FSU and Miami play for the Title in good ol' NYC. It could mebbe happen...

I agree the ACC was better when it was a smaller conference. But that ship has sailed, and keeping the tournament in Greensboro isn't going to bring back those days. I'd certainly rather see FSU-Miami in NYC than FSU-Miami in Greensboro.
