SDeacsz, being the greatest punter in my WFU memory, what is your opinion of him? Pretend you are giving us a scouting report based upon his video.
Obviously I'm partial to big guys. More leverage, although they tend to be a bit more inconsistent than guys with shorter strides. However, leverage is nothing without leg-speed. Something I had to work on. Strong is one thing, Strong and quick makes you elite. (similar to a golf swing).
He needs to shorten his stride. For our scheme with the blockers at 2-3 yards away, a longer stride will mean blocked punts.
Also every punter needs to work on get-toff time. Some of this happens naturally (for me with Mario Williams and Manny Lawson coming full speed. Get the ball off or die). But Still something he needs to rep over and over.
Another HUGE plus is the Rugby style end over end kick. He will probably be a top 5 guy in college day 1 doing this, and returners hate this kick. It kind of knuckles on the way down, so they tend to just get away from it. And most of the time you get a favorable bounce. This kick is not hard to repeat and easy to be consistent with.
The natural talent is there though. I think he will develop well. I've only seen Wulfeck punt once. I know Coach Mitchell is all about the best player playing. And right now I'd take 2 60 yarders and 4 30 yarders, because those 60s change the game, rather than every punt 38 yards. That's just me. Obviously if you are going up against Parrish, Hester, Or Leon Washington, you'll take the 38s if that means 0 return yards, but give me the guy that can hit a punt to change the field position, momentum and the game.
I'm going to make a effort to talk to wake about seeing if I can help him (And Wulfy) some this summer since I just got a job in Winston. I want to make sure its within the rules, so I don't know if I can. But would be cool to give back to the program, if I'm allowed.
